During the NFL season, the NBA has laid claim to Wednesdays and Fridays.

Wednesdays have been home to marquee matchups, spotlighting top teams and noteworthy players. Fridays, however, have been even juicier for fans and bettors. This week, for example, there are 20 teams in action across ten games nationwide.

That means there are plenty of props, spreads, and totals to dive into. These four picks jump off the board as my best bets of the night:

Sacramento Kings (-4.5) at Detroit Pistons

It’s been a long slog for Pistons fans after the breakup of their championship team of the 00’s. This season got a lot more dire with the announcement that Cade Cunningham would miss the rest of the year with shin surgery.

Just as a young core worthy of some excitement starts to build, a major injury sets the timetable back by at least a year.

Jaden Ivey and Bojan Bogdonovich won’t make Detroit a rollover the rest of the season, but there’s plenty of reasons to like the Kings on the road. This season, Sacramento has been feisty away from home, posting a 9-6 record ATS. The Kings have also been generally as expected when favored, covering in seven of ten tries when giving points.

A trip to Detroit to play the struggling Pistons is the perfect way for the Kings to steal a win to end a long 7-game road trip.

Philadelphia 76ers (-7) vs. Golden State Warriors

That number jumps off the page a bit. Philly is always good at home, but isn’t this the Warriors we’re talking about?

Not exactly.

Golden State has already announced that Stephen Curry will miss Friday night’s game with an injury, while Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson continue to nurse nagging ailments.

In this space, I’ve been pounding the drum to bet the Warriors at home. The exact opposite is true on the road. The Dubs are 2-13 away from the Bay, and barely any better versus the spread at just 3-12. Philly, meanwhile, is 11-4 ATS on Broad Street and is starting to get healthy.

Without a clear answer for Joel Embiid in the middle, Golden State will continue to struggle away from the comfy confines of their home arena. I like the Sixers to cover here.

Dallas Mavericks (-3.5) vs. Portland Trailblazers

While every bet is a gamble, this one feels like a real roll of the dice.

Most of the signals here would point towards Portland. The Blazers have been one of the NBA’s surprises, which is reflected in their record ATS. Portland is 19-9 against the numbers this season, faring particularly well as an underdog, cover in 13 of 18 outings.

Dallas has been the opposite. Luka Doncic and crew are just 9-18-1 ATS this season, floundering at .500 in the middle of the Western Conference standings. At home, the Mavs have continually let bettors down, posting a 5-10-1 record in Dallas.

The Mavericks come in having lost three of four, while Portland has won four of five. Everything seems to be screaming in favor of the Blazers.

I think that gives us a perfect chance to fight against expectations and see some regression towards expectations. Doncic is playing too well for Dallas to continually miss chances to collect wins. A home date with a Blazers team that has always struggled to contain the perennial MVP candidate looks like a perfect chance for Dallas to get right. In his career, Doncic averages 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists against Portland.

Oklahoma City Thunder (-1.5) vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

Both of these teams enter on a losing streak, so something’s got to give.

OKC has lost four in a row, though they have been competitive over that stretch, especially in two-point heartbreaker against Miami. Minnesota, meanwhile, looks lost. The Wolves have dropped three straight and scored just 88 points on Wednesday night.

Friday is the Wolves fifth stop on a marathon road trip that stopped in Utah, Portland (for two games, and then Los Angeles. Now they fly thousands of miles to meet the Thunder in OKC, feeling the effects of the geographic spread of the Western Conference.

I trust Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to continue to play like an All-NBA level star and deliver a win against a weary and wilting Minnesota squad.
