Toronto Raptors (+4.5) vs Brooklyn Nets

Although the Nets are 14-9 this season and third in the Eastern Conference, they’ve suffered three surprising defeats to the Wizards and Cavaliers (twice) in their last eight games.

Brooklyn have won just two of their last nine games by a margin of more than four points, so it’s worth backing Toronto to cover here.

The Raptors have won their last two games by 13 points or more and their net rating – which is the 10th-best in the NBA – suggests they’re a better team than their 9-12 record indicates.

Utah Jazz (-7.5) vs Charlotte Hornets

The Jazz are the hottest team in the NBA, having won 13 of their last 14 games to climb to the top of the Western Conference.

Of those 13 wins, 12 came by double-digit margins, including Thursday’s 112-91 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hornets have lost four of their last six home games, all by at least seven points.

Washington Wizards (+6.5) vs Miami Heat

With a 5-13 record and sitting 14th in the East, the Wizards have been bad this year. Remarkably, though, the Heat are even worse at the moment.

The defending conference champions have lost seven of their last eight games – including a 103-100 defeat to Washington in the first leg of this back-to-back – and their only win during that run came by a margin of just one point against the Sacramento Kings.

Miami have been hit hard by injuries this season and are struggling to find any continuity as a result, so the Wizards – who have won two of their last three – are worth backing to at least keep this one close.

Phoenix Suns (-8) vs Detroit Pistons

The Suns lost 123-101 to the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night, but they remain in the playoff spots in the West with an 11-9 record.

Phoenix should bounce back against the Pistons, whose 117-105 loss to the Utah Jazz last time out means they’ve now lost seven of their last nine games and are dead last in the East.

Of Detroit’s 16 losses this season, 12 have come by a margin of at least eight points and they’re currently 1-9 on the road.
