Adonis Stevenson doesn’t fight often, but it’s always explosive when he does.

The Canada-based Haitian has knocked out each of his last three opponents inside four rounds, and he’s won 17 of his last 20 bouts by stoppage.

The 40-year-old has only fought three times since April 2015, though, and there’s always a risk that a big puncher can age in between bouts when appearing so sporadically.

That has to be the biggest concern for Stevenson when he defends his WBC and The Ring light-heavyweight belts against Badou Jack this weekend.

Jack is well-known to British fans, after beating George Groves by split decision to defend the WBC super-middleweight title back in September 2015 and drawing with James DeGale in a cracking unification fight in January of last year.

The Swede was a huge puncher at super-middleweight – DeGale can attest to that – and seems to have carried his power through to his new division, having beaten Nathan Cleverly by fifth-round TKO in his light-heavyweight debut in August.

Jack isn’t just a slugger, though. His skill is underrated, and he’s also got a gas tank that allows him to come on strong in the late rounds.

The 34-year-old’s chin has been questioned in the past, and he was shockingly stopped by Derek Edwards in the first round of their fight back in Feburary 2014.

That’s a weakness that Stevenson will no doubt be keen to exploit, and the champion’s left hook – which might be the best in boxing – is the one punch that can end this fight at any time.

Ultimately, though, Jack’s style should be too much for Stevenson to handle at this age.

The Haitian hasn’t faced a fighter as skilled and athletic as Jack for years, and the younger man’s stamina means he’ll surely be the favourite if he manages to make it through the first five or six rounds without being caught on the chin.

Expect Jack to box on the outside early on and turn up the pressure as the fight progresses to grind out a victory on points.
