Anthony Joshua’s defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr was good news for Tyson Fury.

It means there will be many more eyes on his meeting with Tom Schwarz on Saturday night, wondering whether another of heavyweight boxing’s ‘big three’ will suffer a huge upset.

Don’t hold your breath.

Schwarz is unbeaten in 24 fights with 16 knockouts, and his last six fights have all ended inside six rounds, but he’s never faced anyone even close to the top level.

Before Fury, only two of his opponents have even had their own Wikipedia page.

It’s fair to say he’s no Ruiz.

Fury faced a couple of opponents who had no chance against him before he took on Deontay Wilder last December.

He laboured to a 10-round points decision against Francesco Pianeta in August 2018, and beat Sefer Seferi – who quit on his stool – before that.

Fury put on a show in both fights. Not by boxing well or looking dangerous, but by showboating and toying with his opponent, and a similar performance from the self-proclaimed lineal champion looks likely on Saturday night.

He’s certainly capable of taking Schwarz out early, but it’s more likely that he’ll want to box for a few rounds and make it a spectacle for the supporters who have travelled to Las Vegas.

For the same reason, it’s likely Fury will eventually be looking for a big finish, so there’s not much value in backing this one to go the distance.
