Chisora v Parker odds

Heavyweight boxing returns to Manchester Arena on Saturday night as Dereck Chisora takes on Joseph Parker in what should be a cracking fight.

Chisora last fought in October, when he lost to Oleksandr Usyk by unanimous decision.

‘Del Boy’ was clearly outclassed by the former undisputed cruiserweight champion, but he had won three fights in a row prior to that defeat and remains a tough opponent for any heavyweight who is just below the elite level.

Parker, meanwhile, has won four consecutive fights as he looks to move back into the world title picture.

The former WBO champion has a 28-2 professional record having suffered back-to-back defeats to Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte in 2018, but he didn’t disgrace himself in either of those bouts and almost secured a late stoppage over a fatigued Whyte.

A win over Chisora would place Parker right back alongside Whyte and Usyk in the group of contenders ranking just below Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, and he’s the favourite to get the job done on Saturday night.

Chisora is currently to produce a big performance and earn what would be one of the signature wins of his career.

Chisora has adopted ‘War’ as his nickname for a reason, and this should be the kind of gruelling fight that he so often drags his opponents into.

The 37-year-old has never been the most skilful or physically gifted fighter, but he’s got a huge amount of heart and is willing to battle on the inside for all 12 rounds.

That style almost earned him a huge win over Dillian Whyte in their classic first meeting in 2016, and a similar bout looks likely against Parker, who is also willing to stand and trade big shots.

The Kiwi was hamstrung by the referee not allowing him to fight on the inside against Joshua, but he was given more opportunity to do so against Whyte and almost came away with the win as a result.

He knocked Whyte down in the final round and clearly came on stronger as the fight progressed, which must be a concern for Chisora given how he faded against Usyk last time out.

Parker proved against Whyte that he can stand up against pressure on the inside and also box comfortably on the back foot against a top opponent. For that reason, it’s hard to look past him against Chisora, who was knocked out in the 11^th round of his rematch with Whyte.

The Zimbabwe-born Brit will try to walk Parker down from the opening bell and it won’t be easy to stop him, but at the age of 37 he’s unlikely to be able to keep the pressure on for the entire fight.

Expect Parker to again impose himself in the later rounds and inflict the eighth points defeat of Chisora’s career.
