YouTube star-turned-boxer Jake Paul faces a serious step up in competition in his fourth professional fight against former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in Ohio on Sunday.

Paul is coming off a first-round win against ex-UFC fighter Ben Askren in April, taking his record to 3-0 with three quick knockouts.

It was thought that Askren would provide a real test for Paul, but he crumbled within two minutes to propel the controversial 24-year-old further towards a legitimate boxing career.

Much like Askren, Woodley’s background is in wrestling, but the former UFC champ is far more dangerous with his hands than Paul’s last opponent.

He holds seven wins by way of knockout in mixed martial arts, including a first-round destruction of Robbie Lawler – one of the most durable fighters in the UFC – to win the UFC’s 170lb belt.

Despite that record, Paul enters Sunday’s fight as the favourite, while Woodley is the underdog.

There can be no denying that Paul, alongside his brother Logan, has become one of the biggest draws in boxing over the last year or so.

Everyone is talking about him, and legitimate boxers such as Tommy Fury are now lining up for big-money bouts against him.

His win over Askren proved that he can hold his own against professional combat athletes, but beating Woodley will be a much tougher ask.

The 39-year-old lost his last four fights in the UFC but is among the greatest ever at welterweight, having defended his belt on four occasions.

Walking around at more than 200lb, Woodley should hold a power advantage against Paul at the agreed 190lb limit, although he will concede three inches in height and two inches in reach.

One thing that Paul hasn’t experienced so far in the boxing ring is adversity – he has hardly been hit, and he will feel it if he is caught by Woodley.

The other thing to consider is Woodley’s durability. The Missouri native was knocked out just twice in his 27-fight MMA career, with one of those losses coming due to a rib injury.

Paul has power, but Woodley will have felt far greater over the course of his stint in the Octagon and is unlikely to wilt like previous opponents.

Woodley’s position as the underdog in this fight makes him an even more tempting prospect, and odds of for a decision win are hard to pass up.
