1. Resorts World Catskills

New York's gambling legislations have been busy in recent months. The state's casino laws have been loosened and gamblers looking to escape the New York City heat can travel out to find newly-opened resorts with the hope that more are on the way.

Built by Asian gaming giant Genting, Resorts World Catskills opened in 2018 in Kiamesha Lake and features over 65,000 square feet of gambling action.

There are 112 tables and well over 2,000 slot machines, as well as an 18-storey hotel block for weary tourists.

2. Nayon Landing

Where: Manila, Philippines
Opening: 2022

The Philippines has been growing as an Asian hub for casino developers for the past few years.

Manila isn't short of casinos but it will be joined by a $1.5bn resort in 2022 - Nayon Landing.

The resort will feature a theme park, water park, and what is being billed as Asia's first "indoor movie-themed park". Questions remain over whether President Duterte will kibosh the whole project after limits were put on any new casino projects.

3. Crown Sydney

Opening: 2021

Melbourne's Crown Casino is one of the world's great gambling establishments.

In 2021, the Crown Melbourne will have a sister in Sydney. Constructed on Barangaroo harbour in Sydney, Crown Sydney will feature luxury apartments and a 6-star hotel, a huge gaming floor, and a giant viewing platform for members of the public to access.

It will become Australia's first VIP casino aimed at attracting high rollers. That could be bad news for casual poker machine players looking for a spin on a Friday night.

4. Adelaide Casino

Where: Adelaide, Australia
Opening: 2021

Despite having just over 20 million inhabitants, Australia is busy racing to become one of the must-visit gambling destinations in the world.

Poker machines (pokies) form a large part of Australia's gambling output and visitors in Adelaide will be able to enjoy over 700 of them when the revamped Adelaide Casino opens in 2021.

5. Suncity Casino, Vietnam

Opening: Unknown

Vietnam is slowly becoming one of the big gambling hotspots of Asia.

Major poker tournaments are beginning to be held there, and the country already boasts world-beating resorts like The Grand Ho Tram Strip.

Up next is a new casino to be built in the central province of Quang Nam. Constructed by Suncity, the new project will feature a casino boasting over 140 gaming tables and 1,000 slot machines.

A luxury hotel and golf course will also form part of the new venture.

As in other places in the region, Vietnamese gamblers are largely excluded from casinos in their own country. The new casino may buck this trend but keen Vietnamese slots and roulette players will have to wait and see.
