Some systems rely on increasing the stakes whenever you lose.

But if you like the sound of upping your bet after a win, the 1-3-2-6 betting system might be for you.

The 1-3-2-6 plan works by increasing the stake after a winning blackjack hand.

But due to its simplicity, the system can also be used on online roulette, baccarat, or even craps. Let's have a closer look at this easy betting strategy.

Why use a betting system in blackjack?

Online blackjack can reap long-term rewards for players using optimal strategy.

By following blackjack charts, players can make the best move depending on theirs and the dealer's cards.

But all players will experience downswings, and you could go bust if you aren't using some sensible bankroll management.

That's why the 1-3-2-6 plan boasts a straightforward solution to going bust in low-edge games.

It works like a positive progression plan where the bets are increased following a win.

If you are familiar with the D'Alembert or Reverse Martingale system, it might look familiar.

Using the 1-3-2-6 staking plan.

With the 1-3-2-6 plan, your stakes are increased by set increments following a winning blackjack hand. Beating the dealer earns you even money.

Let's assume a starting bet of £1 per unit and you win your first £1 hand, giving you £2 in the bankroll.

You now instigate the '1' part of the 1-3-2-6 system.

On your second hand, you bet 1 x £1, or £1 and this also wins, giving you another £2 for the roll.

On the third hand, you bet 3 x £1, or £3, then 2 x £2 on the fourth hand, and finally 6 x £1 on the fifth hand. You then bank your money and start over with a unit stake of £1.

If you lose a bet, you start again at your base stake, which is £1 in this case. As you can see, after eight hands, the total profit is £14 from a stake of £16.

Advantages and downsides of the 1-3-2-6 system

In the Reverse Martingale, a doubling of the stake after a win can see your profits soar.

But after a loss, your bets are reset and you have to claw your bankroll back at the low stakes.

The 1-3-2-6 is a safer positive progression method as it actually reduces the stakes at Step 3.

You only have to reach the third stage of the system to earn an overall profit and you will break even if you reach Step 2.

Staking plans in all casino games aren't foolproof.

The house has a statistical edge over players every time, so in most cases it's the player's job to keep a handle on their bets and long-term staking.

In addition, if you use the 1-3-2-6 system for blackjack you will have to factor in a bankroll for splitting pairs and doubling down on 9, 10, and 11 totals.

As with any plans, you should factor in the house edge.

Even European Blackjack has a small edge (of around 0.5% if you play optimal strategy), which means the house is always winning in the long term so a staking system like the 1-3-2-6 will only reap rewards in the short term.

Using the 1-3-2-6 in other casino games

The biggest advantage of the 1-3-2-6 system is that it can be applied to other casino games online.

The important thing is to stick to even-money bets.

If you play roulette online, keep to outside bets like Red/Black or Odd/Even and if you play craps, play the Come/Don't-Come and Pass/Don't Pass areas.

If a jump to 3x or 6x your stake is too much to handle, experiment first with the Reverse D'Alembert system.

It's another positive progression staking plan that increases the player's stake by a single unit after a winning hand or spin.

After a losing game, the stake decreases by one unit.
