Joe Root match runs: Over 99.5 –

Only a ridiculous first-innings run out prevented Root from passing this mark in the first Test.

The skipper has now managed at least one half-century in 20 of his last 23 matches, and totals in the 90s for match runs in his last four Tests against India.

At odds-against, it is worth backing him to score the few extra runs he needs at Lord’s.

Mohamed Shami first innings wickets: over 1.5 –

This tip was successful in the first Test, and is available at an even longer price this time around.

Keaton Jennings remains vulnerable to quality seam bowling at the top of the order, while debutant Ollie Pope is sure to be in the 28-year-old’s sights, too.

Adil Rashid match wickets: over 3.5 –

Rashid returned three wickets in 12 overs in the first Test, with his strength against the tail exemplified by twice dismissing Ishant Sharma with a googly.

On a Lord’s pitch that is expected to turn, he should bowl enough to pick up the extra wicket required.

Ravi Ashwin match wickets: over 3.5 –

Following Ashwin’s excellence at Edgbaston, England have reduced their number of left-handed batsmen for the nxt Test from seven to five (though Moeen Ali could still make that six).

But, given he also dismissed Joe Root and Jos Buttler in the previous match, don’t let that put you off backing him for more success.

The 31-year-old had the wood on Alastair Cook at Edgbaston, with Sam Curran, Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson all still prime candidates at the bottom of the order.
