Root’s poor conversion rate from 50 to 100 may be frustrating, but is hardly at the top of England’s current list of problems.

The captain has scored at least one half-century in 19 of his last 21 Tests, including in both innings of last summer’s match against West Indies at Headingley.

Jimmy Anderson to take 4 or more 1^st innings wickets -

Anderson has taken three 5-fers in his last two Tests at Headingley, and can at least go close to repeating the trick this week.

He took three first-innings wickets at Lord’s in the first match despite being below par, and passed this mark in three of seven first innings last summer.

Asad Shafiq to score over 24.5 1^st innings runs –

Shafiq compiled a solid half-century at Lord’s to extend his strong run against England.

The 32-year-old has passed this mark in five of his last eight innings on these shores, and has reached at least 50 in three of his last four Test knocks overall.
