Ben Stokes to score over 49.5 match runs

England’s team selection and batting order is up in the air with Jonny Bairstow set to return, so it’s worth sticking with one of their more consistent performers to deliver.

Stokes looked in good nick in the second innings of the first Test, hitting 62 from 93 deliveries, and will bat at number three, where he might be more exposed to the pace bowling he prefers.

The all-rounder has beaten this mark in three of his last four Tests, and has scored fewer than 25 in both innings just twice in his last 13 appearances.

Jack Leach to take over 3.5 match wickets

Leach’s disciplined, patient line was rewarded with five wickets in the first Test, and more of the same can be expected.

The majority of wickets fall to spin at Pallekele, with fellow left-armer Rangana Herath taking 20 wickets in three matches here.

Angelo Mathews to score over 49.5 match runs

Mathews looked Sri Lanka’s best batsman in the first Test, scoring a half-century in each innings, and is clearly the most reliable bet again here.

The former skipper has passed this mark in seven of his last 11 Test matches, and in five of his seven matches against England.

Dilruwan Perera to take over 4.5 match wickets

Perera took seven wickets in the first Test, and – in the absence of Rangana Herath – is primed for even more.

The off-spinner has taken 23 wickets in his last three Tests, and can continue to take advantage of the number of left-handed batsmen in England’s line-up.
