Here are Guy Giles' cricket betting tips for the fifth Ashes Test, which starts at 11:00am on Thursday.

England woes at the Oval

England have won their last two Tests at the Oval, against India and South Africa, but their record there is not the best.

They have won just five of their last 10 Test matches at the south London venue, dating back to 2009.

Their recent record against Australia at the Oval is even worse, with just one win coming in the last five Ashes Tests at the Oval.

England’s last Ashes match at the ground ended in an innings defeat, although they had already sewn up victory in the 2015 series.

Australia to win

Smith is unstoppable

Steve Smith just cannot stop scoring, with the Australian talisman adding another 293 runs to his series tally at Old Trafford.

The world’s No. 1 ranked Test batsman now has 671 runs in the 2019 Ashes, a feat made even more impressive by his absence in the third Test.

His tally is almost double that of Ben Stokes, who is the second-highest run scorer of the summer with 354.

Smith’s lowest individual score of the series so far is 82, and it’s hard to see that changing at the Oval as Australia look to seal a 3-1 win.

Starc could lead attack

Mitchell Starc has been a spectator for much of the series so far, with the left arm seamer overlooked by Justin Langer for the first three Tests.

The 29-year-old did, however, return to the team at Old Trafford, taking four wickets in a solid comeback performance.

Starc is now set to play a starring role for the Aussies in the final Test, with Langer admitting that both Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are suffering from fatigue and may not play at the Oval.

The Kennington pitch tends to favour the quicks, meaning Starc could rip through England this weekend.

Warner in trouble

David Warner is an invaluable asset for Australia at the top of the order, with his swashbuckling style laying the platform for countless wins over the years.

The controversial opener is, however, experiencing the worst series of his career this summer, passing 50 just once in four Tests so far.

His last three innings have all ended in a duck, with Warner registering his first pair in Test cricket at Old Trafford.

Stuart Broad has dismissed him six times in eight innings so far, and the fast Oval pitch is unlikely to help Warner back into form.

Bairstow playing for place

Jonny Bairstow has been a constant in the England team for more than three years, but his poor form this summer may bring that run to an end.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has passed 50 just once in the series while batting at his preferred number seven slot at Lord’s.

Moving up and down the order will not have helped the 29-year-old, but it is his issue with the inswinging ball that is a concern.

Almost 30 per cent of Bairstow’s Test dismissals have come to balls moving back in, which is the highest occurrence for a player in this century.
