Here are Adam Drury's cricket betting tips for the first ODI, which starts at 15:00 GMT on Wednesday afternoon.

Chris Gayle to score under 25.5 runs

Gayle has not played an ODI since July, and the fact he’s already announced that he will retire after this summer’s World Cup suggests he sees this series as the beginning of the end.

The 39-year-old has passed this mark in just four of the last 11 ODIs he has actually played, and scored 15 or under in four of his last six innings in the Bangladesh Premier League during the last few weeks.

Joe Root to score over 35.5 runs

Root’s return to form at the end of the Test series between these sides could not have been timelier.

A century in the third match of that series was backed up with another in Sunday’s one-day warm-up, so he seems an obvious bet to carry his form into the first ODI.

He has ended four of his last seven ODI innings not out, scoring unbeaten centuries in two of them, while he hit 90* and 101 in the three-match series on these shores two years ago.

Adil Rashid to take over 1.5 wickets

Backing success for Rashid in this format is always a good bet.

Only Rashid Khan has taken more wickets in ODIs since the end of the last World Cup, while he has passed this mark in nine of his last 14 matches.
