Top England batsman: Joe Root -

Runs do not dry up for England’s best batsman, and it would come as no surprise whatsoever were he to star again.

Root averaged over 80 during the Champions Trophy in June, and has scored below 30 in only two of his last 11 ODIs.

Alex Hales may prove more explosive, and could win in this market if he rediscovers some form, but Root is the safe bet for regular runs.

Top West Indies batsman: Marlon Samuels -

While neutrals will hope to see plenty of Chris Gayle over the next fortnight, one of the format’s greatest ever batsmen is not capable of doing the same damage as he once was.

Instead, we turn to Marlon Samuels, and star of the Test series, Shai Hope.

Though Hope is the man in form, Samuels will be motivated by his tempestuous relationship with the England team, and will be keen to prove his worth after a year-long absence from the ODI team.

Top England bowler: Adil Rashid -

Having been snubbed by the Test team all summer, Rashid will be desperate to prove his worth in this series.

The leg-spinner is England’s leading wicket-taker in this format in the last year – since the 2015 World Cup, in fact – and is fundamental to their ability to take wickets in the middle overs.

Always underrated, back him to come good again.

Top West Indies bowler: Devendra Bishoo -

Complete the leg-spin clean sweep by backing Bishoo to come to the fore for the visitors.

He was quiet in terms of wicket-taking against India during the series in June and July, but remained economical against a line-up accustomed to facing spin, and should enjoy himself much more against England.

The 31-year-old eased his way into the tour during the Test series, but is more comfortable with the white ball, and will be aiming to take advantage of the hosts’ Achilles’ heel.

Series score: England 4-1 -

Man for man, England have much the stronger team, and should win the series comfortably.

The return of Gayle and Samuels offers some glitz to the contest, but the former has not played an ODI for more than two-and-a-half years and is unlikely to star.

The September conditions could challenge England’s flat-track-bully batsmen, but they have won their last four home ODI series and should ease to victory here.
