1. MS Dhoni – 173 dismissals

It is no surprise that arguably the most legendary figure in the history of the IPL leads the way in terms of dismissals behind the stumps.

Dhoni has captained Chennai Super Kings in each of their IPL campaigns, but also added to this tally while keeping wicket for Rising Pune Supergiant(s) in 2016 and 2017.

He also leads the way in catches, taking 131, and in stumpings with 39.

Dhoni’s quick hands have always been his trademark and are the reason why he tops this list.

2. Dinesh Karthik – 159 dismissals

In second place is Dinesh Karthik, who has played second fiddle to Dhoni for much of his international career, but has become a stalwart of domestic cricket in India.

In contrast to Dhoni, Karthik has played for six different franchises across his 15-year IPL career, most recently donning the gloves for Royal Challengers Bangalore, who he will represent again in 2023.

He has taken 125 catches, six fewer than Dhoni, although he has kept wicket for just 212 innings compared to Dhoni's 227. He is also trailing Dhoni in stumpings by just five.

His battle with the Dhoni at the top of the charts will be an interesting subplot to this year’s competition.

3. Wriddhiman Saha - 95 dismissals

A distant third on the list is Wriddhiman Saha, another keeper who has seen his international career with India limited by the presence of MS Dhoni but has enjoyed consistent success domestically.

Saha has played for five franchises over his 15 years in the IPL - Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans - winning titles in 2011 with Chennai and 2022 with Gujarat, who he will play for again in 2023. He also played in the 2014 final for Punjab, becoming the first batsman to score a century in an IPL final.

In 144 IPL matches, Saha has taken 73 catches and made 22 stumpings.

4. Robin Uthappa – 90 dismissals

Next up is Robin Uthappa, who retired from all forms of international and Indian cricket at the end of 2022.

The batsman and occasional wicket-keeper has represented six franchises in his IPL career, last playing for Chennai Super Kings in 2022.

Though he was never a regular gloveman, he can still reflect on a wicket-keeping career that saw him take 58 catches and make 32 stumpings.

He has kept wicket in just 114 of his 205 IPL appearances, so that is not a bad record for a player who is more of a part-timer than most.

5. Parthiv Patel – 81 dismissals

Patel is yet another Indian wicket-keeper who sits in the top five in terms of IPL dismissals.

Patel announced his retirement at the end of 2020, having seen his opportunities in the IPL diminish in the final years of his career.

Patel took 65 catches and 16 stumpings throughout his IPL career, featuring in three campaigns for Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, four for Royal Challengers Bangalore and one for Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

His place on this list will likely come to an end in 2023, with Quinton De Kock, who is set to play for the Lucknow Super Giants, just four dismissals behind him.
