Here are Guy Giles' cricket betting tips for the second Test match, which starts at 10:00pm on Thursday.

England in disarray

It was a familiar story for England as they lost the first Test by an innings and 65 runs in Mount Maunganui last week.

Another batting collapse, caused by an inability to adapt to unfamiliar conditions, saw Joe Root suffer his fourth innings defeat in 14 away Tests as captain.

The series now moves to Hamilton for the second and final Test, where it’s hard to see England recovering when their batting frailties are still so evident.

New Zealand to win

Denly stands up

One positive for England in Tauranga was the performance of Joe Denly, who could be a long-term option at No. 3, after all.

After an underwhelming start to summer, the 33-year-old kept his place after scoring a 50 in each of the last three Ashes Tests.  

He followed that up last week with a 74 in the first innings and a resolute 35 off 142 in the second, remaining at the crease for 58 balls more than anyone else in the side.

Curran the right choice

England’s biggest selection headache ahead of the series was between Chris Woakes or Sam Curran as first-change seamer and No. 8 batsman.

Curran’s impressive warm-up performances saw him given the nod, and the youngster proved he was the right choice with a promising display in the Bay of Plenty.

Three wickets in the match made him England’s top bowler, while a gutsy 29 in the second innings demonstrated his ability with the bat.

Williamson will want more

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson proved his fitness in time for the first Test, and impressed while making a first-innings 51.

He looked in good touch before falling to a ball which spat up off the surface from Curran, and will be confident of scoring more runs in the second Test.

The 29-year-old has a wonderful record in Hamilton, with his last five Test innings there reading 200, 54, 43, 176 and 42.

Ferguson set for debut

After being left out of the team in Tauranga it looks like Lockie Ferguson will finally make his Test debut in Hamilton.

Trent Boult is a doubt with a rib injury, opening the door to Ferguson, who was the second-highest wicket-taker at the World Cup.

His extra pace is sure to put him among the wickets in Hamilton, a ground where seamers traditionally excel.
