MENSUR SULJOVIC v MICHAEL SMITH

Suljovic to win and Smith to hit the most 180s –

Smith is joint-top of the table with two wins from two, while Suljovic is joint-bottom without point to his name. That, though, doesn’t reflect their respective levels of performance so far.

Suljovic’s average of 102.55 last week – the highest of the night – was the second time he’s topped the hundred mark in defeat, while Smith is yet to break the three-figure barrier.

The Austrian has also been more clinical, nailing 45 per cent of his doubles compared to Bully Boy’s 37, and has won five of the last six meetings between the two, including at the Masters last month.

The only area he’s likely to be outshone is 180s, with Smith’s smoother throwing style producing more maximums than Suljovic’s unorthodox action in both the first two rounds of fixtures.

DARYL GURNEY v GERWYN PRICE

Gurney to win and hit the most 180s with under 1.5 100+ checkouts in match –

Gurney has lost five of his six meetings with Price to date. Given that he is seven places higher in the PDC Order of Merit, however, that is an anomaly that ought to be evened up slightly on Thursday.

The Northern Irishman found some form over the weekend by beating Peter Wright on his way to the final of the sixth UK Open qualifier in Wigan.

He has also thrown the joint-most 180s in the Premier League so far with eight, while Price is yet to hit more than two in a single match.

There won’t be too many spectacular checkouts, though, with this pair combining for a grand total of just one ton-plus finish in their four matches so far.

PETER WRIGHT v ROB CROSS

Match to be drawn –

Wright is on a high right now, having made the semi-finals in four of six UK Open qualifiers either side of beating Michael van Gerwen on TV for the very first time last week.

Cross also rediscovered his touch over the weekend after reaching two semis and a final in Wigan, beating Wright in the final four of the latter.  

That could prove crucial in helping the world champion to get off the mark for the season, though, having not won a single leg against the throw so far, he’ll do well to win the game outright.

No player has drawn more Premier League matches than Peter Wright since he joined the top flight in 2014, and, having each won three and drawn one of their seven meetings so far, don’t be surprised if the spoils are shared in this one – which wouldn’t be a bad result for either of them.

GARY ANDERSON v MICHAEL VAN GERWEN

Van Gerwen to win, Anderson to hit the most 180s and both players to score a 100+ checkout –

MVG suffered a surprise defeat last week, after missing darts to win five of the seven legs that gave Wright his victory.

But the world No. 1 has never lost successive Premier League matches in over five years in the competition, so don’t expect him to be so profligate again. 

His readiness to switch to treble 19, however, means Anderson – who has hit twice as many maximums as the reigning champion in the opening fortnight – can be trusted to land more 180s.

The Flying Scotsman has also hit three-figure finishes in each of his matches so far, while MVG nailed a 170 checkout last week to go with his three 114s in Dublin.

SIMON WHITLOCK v RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD

Van Barneveld to win, hit the most 180s and score the highest checkout –

Whitlock has done well to scrap his way to wins against Suljovic and a woefully out-of-form Cross so far, but getting the better of Van Barneveld is a different proposition.

Barney is in good nick at the moment, having hit the joint-most 180s in the tournament and checking out with a wonderful 167 last week. 

Whitlock, on the other hand, has thrown the joint-fewest maximums so far with just two, both of which came in week one.

These two haven’t played each other in over a year and have an even head-to-head record, but it is the verteran Dutchman who is more likely to maintain his unbeaten start to the season here.
