What is esports?
Esports is a form of sporting competition that involves competitive and organised video gaming.
It encompasses hundreds of different games across many different genres, including strategy, shooters and racing games.
The top players in the world compete for a variety of organisations from many different countries, with millions around the world tuning in to watch the biggest tournaments.
The top three esports in the world at the moment are CS:GO, Dota 2 and LoL.
LoL and Dota2 are both multiplayer online battle arena games (MOBAs) and CS:GO is a first-person shooter (FPS), similar to Call of Duty.
How do you bet on esports?
If you are unsure of how betting odds work, read our handy guide which provides you with all the information you need to start betting.
When you’re ready to place a bet, your first option is to head to the Betway Insider website to read through our experts’ tips. Each article will have a link to the sportsbook, where you can then place your bet.
Otherwise you can head straight to the Betway sportsbook to place your bet.
The most popular market for betting on esports is match winner, where you are simply betting on which team you think will win the match.
Another popular offering for esports is the map winner market, which allows you to bet on a team to win a specific map within a best-of-three or best-of-five match.
If you want to be more specific with your predictions, you can place a correct score bet. For example, if you’re betting on a best-of-three match, you can bet on the outcome being 2-0 or 2-1 to either team.
Another main market in esports betting is the handicap market, in which one team is given an advantage to even the odds. For example, if Team A is heavy favourites, they may be given a map handicap of -1.5. This means they must win the match by two clear maps for the bet to come in. Their opponent will be given a handicap of +1.5, meaning they must simply stay within two maps of their opponent for the bet to land.
There are plenty of other markets available for betting on esports, simply head to the Betway sportsbook to discover them all.
If you want to learn how to bet on specific esports, then you can find betting guides for CS:GO and Dota 2 on our blog.
