Argentina to beat Saudi Arabia to nil (10:00) 11/20

Argentina arrive in Qatar as the World Cup’s in-form team. They beat UAE 5-0 in a warm-up friendly last week, meaning they’ve now won their last five games by an aggregate score of 19-0.

The 2021 Copa America winners are unbeaten in 36 matches dating back to 2019, and have also won eight of their last nine games.

They should open their World Cup campaign with a comfortable win over Saudi Arabia, who have won two of their last eight games, scoring just three goals during that run.

Denmark to beat Tunisia & under 2.5 goals (13:00) 2/1

Denmark reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020 and have since kicked on by winning 11 of their 14 matches following that tournament.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side are one of the World Cup’s dark horses, and look to have a decent chance of topping Group D having beaten France twice in the Nations League this year.

Tunisia have kept seven clean sheets in their last eight matches, so this isn’t likely to be a thrashing, but the Carthage Eagles’ squad doesn’t compare to Denmark’s and it’s going to be very difficult for them to take a point here.

Mexico to beat Poland (16:00) 17/10

Mexico memorably shocked Germany in their opening game at the 2018 World Cup, and look good value to make a winning start again when they face Poland.

Mexico have a decent record over the past year, having won eight, drawn five and lost four of their matches, while Poland have lost four of their last eight competitive matches.

Poland tend to start slowly at major tournaments, having lost 2-1 to Senegal in their opener in 2018 and 2-1 to Slovakia in their first game at last year’s Euros, and they’ve only made it out of the group stage in one of seven tournament appearances since 1986.

France to beat Australia & under 2.5 goals (19:00) 9/4

These teams met in the opening game at the 2018 World Cup, with France winning 2-1 thanks to a late own goal.

This meeting should also end in victory for Les Bleus, as Australia have won two, drawn three and lost eight of their 13 World Cup matches since the start of Germany 2006.

France haven’t been in great form and likely won’t score many goals at this tournament, but they will be too strong for the Socceroos and should grind out a low-scoring win.
