Sergi Roberto

Club: Barcelona

Age: 28

Nationality: Spain

Position: Central midfielder/Right-back

Linked teams: Manchester City

In a team full of star names, Roberto’s importance for Barcelona tends to go unnoticed by many.

Since making his debut ten years ago as a natural central midfielder, Roberto has developed into one of the most versatile players in European football.

This season alone, the 28-year-old has been deployed in four different positions – right-back, centre-back, right-wing and central midfield. In one campaign under Luis Enrique, he played in seven different roles.

That versatility would be a welcome addition for any of the top-six sides in the Premier League, but it is only Manchester City who have reportedly shown interest in a summer move.

Pep Guardiola knows the player well after handing him his Barcelona debut in 2010, so such a switch would seem to make sense.

Unai Nunez

Club: Athletic Bilbao

Age: 23

Nationality: Spain

Position: Central defender

Linked teams: Arsenal, Manchester City, West Ham

Nunez has emerged as one of Spain’s most promising young defenders after making his breakthrough from the Bilbao academy in 2017.

The 23-year-old was part of the Spain side that won the UEFA Under-21 Euros in 2019, going on to make his full international debut later that year.

Despite his obvious potential, Nunez has at times struggled to nail down a starting spot at Bilbao, and a summer exit is now being touted.

A £25m release clause makes him an affordable prospect for most Premier League sides, with Arsenal, Manchester City and West Ham all reported to be in the hunt.

James Rodriguez

media

Club: Real Madrid

Age: 28

Nationality: Colombia

Position: Attacking midfielder

Linked teams: Arsenal, Everton, Manchester Utd, Newcastle, Wolves

There will never be a better chance for James to move to the Premier League than in the next transfer window.

The playmaker is on the fringes at Real, having made just 13 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

He is out of contract at the Bernabeu in the summer of 2021, meaning Real must offload him on a cut-price deal or risk losing him on a free in a year.

There will inevitably be interested clubs across Europe – including Real’s cross-city rivals Atletico – but several Premier League sides are already linked with a move.

Marc Cucurella

Club: Getafe

Age: 21

Nationality: Spain

Position: Left-back

Linked teams: Chelsea

With their La Masia academy churning out world-class players on a yearly basis, it is inevitable that Barcelona occasionally let one slip.

Marc Cucurella is the latest player that Barca may regret losing.

The long-haired left-back first impressed at Eibar before being bought back immediately by the Catalan club, but a successful spell at Getafe saw Cucurella sold again. This time he is unlikely to return.

Cucurella could now find himself in the Premier League this summer, with the 21-year-old reportedly attracting interest from Chelsea after a breakout season.

Thomas Partey

media

Club: Atletico Madrid

Age: 26

Nationality:  Ghana

Position: Defensive midfielder

Linked teams: Arsenal

After spending two seasons in the reserves, two seasons on loan and two seasons as a bit-part player, Partey has finally emerged as a midfield force for Atletico.

A hard-working, destructive midfielder, Partey provides the perfect shield for Atletico’s already-solid defence.

The 26-year-old is also better going forward than many give him credit for, with his pace allowing him to launch counter-attacks and his powerful long shots providing an occasional goalscoring option.

He has a £44.5m release clause in his contract which, in normal circumstances, would represent a steal. The current financial climate may have changed that, however.

Arsenal are being heavily linked with a move for the Ghana international this summer, with Partey reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League.

Mohammed Salisu

Club: Real Valladolid

Age: 21

Nationality: Ghana

Position: Central defender

Linked teams: Manchester Utd, Southampton, Watford, Wolves

It is little surprise that Salisu is attracting interest from across Europe, with clubs in Spain, France and England reportedly interested.

The young centre-back has emerged as one of the most exciting defensive talents in La Liga with his performances for Valladolid this season.

Standing at 6ft 3in, Salisu is strong both in the air and in the tackle, ranking sixth for clearances and fourth for blocks in the whole of La Liga.

At just 21 years old there is obviously a lot for Salisu to learn, but the ingredients are there for him to become a world-class defender.

The headline interest reportedly comes from Old Trafford, but Southampton, Wolves and Watford have also been linked with a summer move.

Diego Carlos

media

Club: Sevilla

Age: 27

Nationality: Brazil

Position: Central defender

Linked teams: Arsenal, Liverpool

Unlike Salisu, who has emerged at a young age, Carlos is a late bloomer.

The centre-back has only emerged as a top-level performer this season, following his move to Sevilla from Ligue 1 side Nantes.

The 27-year-old has been a key performer for Julen Lopetegui’s side, who currently sit in third ahead of the season resumption.

His form in Spain has reportedly attracted interest from both Liverpool and Arsenal, but a £67m release clause could cause problems in the current economic climate.

Samuel Chukwueze

Club: Villareal

Age: 21

Nationality: Nigeria

Position: Winger

Linked teams: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City

A glance at Chukwueze’s stats this season – four goals and four assists from 30 appearances in all competitions – may leave you wondering why so many top teams have been linked with a move.

But Chukwueze’s contribution for Villareal, who remain in the hunt for a Europa League spot, runs far deeper than numbers.

His pace helps stretch opposition defences, and he provides the Yellow Submarine with a constant outlet on the counter-attack.

His material contribution does need to improve but, at just 21 years old, that will come in time.

Four of the top six are reportedly interested - including Arsenal, who nearly signed him as a teenager - but Chukwueze may be better served at a mid-table side where he would be given the opportunity to continue his development properly.

Ivan Rakitic

media

Club: Barcelona

Age: 32

Nationality: Croatia

Position: Central midfielder

Linked teams: Tottenham, Manchester United

After six highly-successful seasons, it looks as though Rakitic’s time at the Nou Camp may come to an end this summer.

The Croatia international has won 10 major trophies during his time at Barcelona, emerging as one of the world’s leading midfielders during that time.

While he has expressed no interest in leaving Barca, the 32-year-old may be forced to reconsider with his contract ending in 2021.

Manchester United and Tottenham are both said to be interested, with Jose Mourinho previously describing Rakitic as “one of the most underrated players in the world.”

He is admittedly entering the latter stages of his career, but Rakitic would still be a brilliant signing for either club.

Gareth Bale

Club: Real Madrid

Age: 30

Nationality: Wales

Position: Forward

Linked teams: Manchester United, Newcastle, Tottenham

Bale’s potential return to the Premier League is a transfer story that never seems to end.

After playing a massive part in four Champions League trophies in five seasons, Bale has fallen out of favour at Real, both in the dressing room and in the stands.

His relationship with the fans is all but irreparable, and manager Zinedine Zidane seems to have lost faith in his abilities on the pitch.

Despite all this, Bale reportedly remains happy in the Spanish capital, and with two years remaining on his massive contract, Real may struggle to move him on.

If he does want to leave, however, Tottenham, Newcastle and Manchester United are said to be interested in bringing Bale back to where it all started.
