Erling Haaland is the favourite to retain the Premier League Golden Boot and he will clearly be difficult to overcome following a sensational debut season for treble winners Manchester City.

Haaland scored a remarkable 36 Premier League goals at a rate of more than one per game, and many punters will consider him a strong favourite to retain the award.

However, any injury could ruin those aspirations. At the prices, he is worth taking on, particularly as there are some juicy each-way alternatives for those who could finish second or third to the Norwegian.

Haaland is the one to beat, but here are three each-way plays against the City goalscoring machine.

Premier League Golden Boot each-way tips

Christopher Nkunku

Chelsea's last raid on Leipzig for a forward did not end well, with Timo Werner proving to be a major disappointment, but hopes are rightly high that Christopher Nkunku could make an immediate impact on the Premier League.

The versatile forward has scored 36 goals across the last two Bundesliga campaigns, and his 16 goals last season was a terrific return given injury problems handicapped his efforts, with just 25 appearances for Leipzig.

Nkunku was named as the Bundesliga's player of the season in 2021-22 and he is proven at the highest level, scoring a hat-trick against City in the Champions League.

Chelsea have already used him in different positions in pre-season, but with youngster Nicolas Jackson the only current realistic challenger for the central striking role it feels fair to assume Mauricio Pochettino will at least give the French forward an opportunity as the main man up front.

Heung-min Son

Son failed to shine last season as Tottenham disappointed, but he did receive a nasty facial injury which required him to wear a mask for a lengthy period, and the South Korean also said he finished the season injured.

His 10 goals in the Premier League was Son's worst effort since his debut campaign in England, and usually the former Hamburg star is a reliable source of goals. In his last six campaigns before 2022-23 he registered tallies of 14, 12, 12, 11, 17 and 23 - the last of which was enough to share the Golden Boot award with Mohamed Salah.

Tottenham are expected to adopt more positive tactics under Ange Postecoglou compared to Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, and the smile could return to Son's face. He might also be on penalties if Harry Kane departs.

Bukayo Saka

There is no way of knowing exactly how much potential is in the boots of Bukayo Saka, but there is likely even more to come from the Arsenal winger after last season's brilliant campaign, which saw him finish with double figures for both goals and assists.

The 21-year-old scored 14 times in the league, upping his tally by three from the previous season, and he definitely has the potential to reach 20-plus goals.

Saka scored in two different World Cup games for England and also notched a hat-trick in the June qualifier against North Macedonia.
