PLAYERS TO ADD

GK – MATT TURNER (£4M)

Turner is one of two £4m goalkeepers that started on opening day and the only one who looks likely to be his team’s no.1 all season.

This weekend, he faces a Sheffield United side that looked toothless against Crystal Palace, having struggled to replace striker Iliman N’Diaye and influential midfielder Sander Berge.

The Blades were the only home team in the Premier League to register just one shot on target.

Nottingham Forest are just to keep a clean sheet at home to Sheffield United. Only Liverpool at home to Bournemouth and Arsenal away to Crystal Palace are a shorter price than Forest for a shutout.

DEF – PERVIS ESTUPINAN (£5.1M)

Estupinan is basically an FPL cheat code.

Despite being a defender, the Ecuadorian registered an assist and three shots on goal in Brighton’s 4-1 victory over Luton on the opening day – only forwards Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro had more shots.

Estupinan also made six key passes – no Brighton player made more – suggesting that assist will not be his last.

He finished last season with a goal and five assists, which aren’t bad numbers for a defender. But he can do even better this term. His price has risen by £0.1m, so get him in now before it goes even higher.

MID – JAMES MADDISON (£7.5M)

Maddison was one of Tottenham’s bright sparks as they drew 2-2 at Brentford in their first competitive match under Ange Postecoglou.

The former Leicester man supplied assists for both of Spurs’ goals and generally looked a threat. Going into their first home game of the season, it feels like this is probably a good time to face Manchester United given their performance against Wolves at Old Trafford.

Looking beyond that, games against Bournemouth, Burnley and Sheffield United in their next three should provide plenty of opportunities for points.

ST – NICOLAS JACKSON (£7M)

Jackson looked a handful in his Premier League debut at home to Liverpool, generating an xG of 0.84 from four shots on goal.

On another day, the 22-year-old centre forward would have scored at least one, and will face easier tests in the coming weeks.

Following an away game at West Ham, Chelsea’s fixtures look kinder. Mauricio Pochettino’s side face Luton and Nottingham Forest in back-to-back home games before an away game at Bournemouth after the international break.

It would be a surprise if he’s still waiting for his first goal on the other side of that period of matches.

CAPTAIN PICK – MOHAMED SALAH (£12.5M)

Liverpool are to win and Salah is to score this weekend – the respective shortest and second-shortest prices in the Premier League.

While neither of those are guarantees of anything, they are indicators that both are expected to do well.

Salah got an assist and had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside against Chelsea, while generally looking dangerous while on the pitch.

He has only gone two games without scoring at Anfield once in 15 months, so after blanking during the final home game of 2022/23, he’s due one.

DIFFERENTIAL OF THE WEEK – EBERE EZE (£6.5M)

Eze was a constant threat for Crystal Palace on opening day, rattling off eight shots on goal against Sheffield United.

The fact he didn’t score shouldn’t worry you because the law of averages suggests he will if he keeps that strike rate up.

An upcoming home game against Arsenal will likely see his ownership percentage drop below the 15.5 per cent is currently sits at. But even with that challenge ahead, his price of to score – shorter than any other Palace player – suggests he’ll give the Gunners a few issues.

Looking ahead, the next four games against Brentford, Wolves, Aston Villa and Fulham should provide fertile ground.
