ARSENAL: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (22)

Aubameyang scored twice on the final day to share the Golden Boot last season, and won’t have a problem finishing as Arsenal’s top scorer again.

Alexandre Lacazette is his only competition. The Frenchman could only manage 13 Premier League goals last term, though, and may regularly be rested for Europa League Thursdays.

ASTON VILLA: Jonathan Kodjia (9)

Tammy Abraham’s return to Chelsea leaves Kodjia as Villa’s highest available goalscorer.

But if new signing Wesley Moraes doesn’t top their charts this season then £22m has probably been wasted.

BOURNEMOUTH: Callum Wilson (14)

Wilson was the most prolific of Bournemouth’s three first-team strikers, but is not guaranteed to score most again.

Josh King takes penalties, so he always stands a chance, while it must be time for Dominic Solanke to get more game time.

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION: Glenn Murray (13)

Murray romped home for Brighton last season, with Shane Duffy (5) their second-highest goalscorer.

But whether the 35-year-old will be first choice as Graham Potter aims to radicalise the Seagulls’ style of play is doubtful. If not, watch out for Florin Andone, who has started pre-season well.

BURNLEY: Ashley Barnes (12)

Barnes was the data king last season, ranking sixth behind several big names for xG in 2019.

He looks sure to score between 10-15 goals again, so Chris Wood and Jay Rodriguez have work to do to overtake him. 

CHELSEA: Pedro (8)

They have lost the man that carried them through last season, so predicting the make-up of Chelsea’s new attack is a fool’s game.

Pedro scored most after Eden Hazard, but will presumably be challenged by Christian Pulisic, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi.

CRYSTAL PALACE: Luka Milivojevic (12)

We don’t yet know whether VAR will bring with it an avalanche of penalties, but Milivojevic will be a beneficiary if it does.

The Serb is reliable from the spot, and also shoots a lot from distance. Palace have nobody who seems likely to threaten him, particularly if Wilfried Zaha wins his battle to leave.

EVERTON: Richarlison/Gylfi Sigurdsson (13)

With Everton still scrabbling around for a striker who regularly scores, you sense it’s going to be another big season for Richarlison.

Sigurdsson could be demoted from penalty-taking duties, which will affect his chances, but the Toffees may yet sign a forward who blows the rest out of the water.

LEICESTER CITY: Jamie Vardy (18)

Vardy will turn 33 midway through this season, but he shows no signs of slowing down.

Expect him to maintain his monopoly over Leicester’s goalscoring, with no realistic competition and his supply line being improved in the transfer market.

LIVERPOOL: Mohamed Salah/Sadio Mane (22)

Mane was arguably the most impressive goalscorer in the division last season, with none of his goals coming from the penalty spot.

But Salah will return to pre-season much sooner after Egypt were knocked out of the AFCON early, and gets into good goalscoring positions more regularly than his team-mate.

MANCHESTER CITY: Sergio Aguero (21)

Gabriel Jesus has reportedly decided to give it one more season before accepting that he will not break into the City first team, so Aguero’s playing time may be compromised.

That opens the door for Raheem Sterling, who will play most of the matches and only scored four goals fewer than the Argentine last term.

MANCHESTER UNITED: Paul Pogba (13)

It was a bit of a shock to see that Pogba had beaten Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial (both 10) so comfortably, and it would be equally surprising if he managed it again.

Even if the Frenchman can find it within himself to soldier on at Old Trafford for another season, Rashford should play 30+ games as United’s centre-forward and get close to 20 goals.

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Fabian Schar (4)

When you’re not much good in attack anyway, going into the new season without two forwards who scored 23 of your 42 goals last season is desperate.

Centre-back Fabian Schar is currently Newcastle’s most prolific marksman, so Joelinton – said to be close to joining from Hoffenheim – will clean up if he signs.

NORWICH CITY: Teemu Pukki (29)

Pukki was the Championship’s top goalscorer last season, and should continue to receive chances for a side that won’t stop attacking despite the step up.

He probably won’t score more, but watch out for Emi Buendia, whose skill around the box will be underestimated.

SHEFFIELD UNITED: Billy Sharp (23)

Sharp might be a die-hard Blade, but it is doubtful whether Sheffield United can afford a player who offers little outside the 18-yard box in the Premier League.

Step forward Callum Robinson, the summer signing from Preston, who shoots – and scores – a lot.

SOUTHAMPTON: Danny Ings/James Ward-Prowse (7)

Southampton have accepted that they won’t be able to keep Danny Ings fit for chunks of this season by spending £15m on his understudy, Che Adams.

Ings, Adams, Ward-Prowse, Nathan Redmond and one or two others should score enough goals between them, even if they all struggle to reach double figures individually.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR: Harry Kane (17)

Despite those dodgy ankles letting him down twice last season, nobody challenged Kane as Spurs’ top scorer.

The signing of Tanguy Ndombele should relieve some of the creative burden, and ensure that – fitness permitting – the England captain is back in contention for the Golden Boot this term.

WATFORD: Gerard Deulofeu (10)

No Watford player has hit more than 10 league goals in a season since 2015/16, but Deulofeu looks likeliest to put an end to that unwanted record.

The Spaniard reached double figures despite not featuring until the middle of October last term. He looks sure to outscore Troy Deeney and Andre Gray again.

WEST HAM UNITED: Felipe Anderson (9)

The departure of Marko Arnautovic leaves Anderson as West Ham’s leading available goalscorer, but things won’t have gone to plan if that is the case in 12 months’ time.

Club-record signing Sebastien Haller racked up 20 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt in all competitions last season, and is the star striker the Hammers have been craving for years.

WOLVES: Raul Jimenez (13)

The sight of midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White leading the line in a pre-season friendly this week reinforced Wolves’ reliance on Jimenez.

The Mexican hit 13 goals last season, and won’t be challenged at the top of the pecking order this time around.
