A serious knee injury has seen the winger miss the entirety of the season so far, but he is now on the verge of his long-awaited comeback. He could help salvage some pride for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Manchester United – Paul Pogba is back

United’s record signing has played just seven matches in all competitions this season owing to a recurring ankle injury.

Now back to full fitness after the enforced break, Pogba presents a selection headache for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Can he play alongside Fred? Will he link up well with new signing Bruno Fernandes? The final nine games of the season will go a long way to determining his future at the club.

Newcastle – Takeover distraction

The potential departure of Mike Ashley and the moral and political wranglings that a Saudi Arabian takeover would bring are set to dominate Newcastle’s remaining matches.

Steve Bruce’s side are not yet safe from relegation, though, and must produce on the pitch despite knowing that plenty of them could be out of a job by August.

Southampton have been rewarded for sticking by manager Ralph Hasenhuttl since October’s humbling 9-0 defeat to Leicester, ranking ninth in the Premier League since then.

Handing a new four-year contract to Hasenhuttl suggests that the club still has every confidence in the German’s vision and a few good results in June and July will set them on their way to making a much better fist of things next term.

Tottenham – The return of Harry Kane

This season has not gone to plan for Tottenham or for Jose Mourinho, with their four-year run in the Champions League looking unlikely to continue.

Their slim chances of breaking into the top four have, however, been boosted by the return of Harry Kane, who could give them an edge in that battle.

Wolves – Traore aiming to continue stunning season

The story of Wolves’ season so far has been the emergence of Adama Traore as a bona-fide Premier League-quality player. The winger has terrorised some of the division’s best defences and registered four goals and seven assists.

If Wolves are to secure another season in Europe, and if Traore is to truly establish himself as a top-flight star, then that form simply has to continue into the restart.
