TOP LONDON CLUB: ARSENAL

With Chelsea floundering in pre-season and struggling to bring in their top transfer targets, you’re best looking elsewhere in London.

Instead, this looks like a straight shootout between Tottenham and Arsenal, who both look set for impressive seasons.

Given the massive gap in prices, the value is with the latter.

The presence of Antonio Conte at Spurs is obviously a major plus point, but the summer business of their rivals looks more eye-catching.

Of Tottenham’s incomings, full back Djed Spence has only ever played as high as the Championship, Clement Lenglet was a bit-part player in an underperforming Barcelona side last season and Richarlison is unlikely to unseat Harry Kane as their main striker.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have brought in title winners Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

The former becomes one of the best technical players in their squad, while Jesus solves their problem of lacking a natural goalscorer.

TOP SOUTH COAST CLUB: SOUTHAMPTON

It’s prudent to start this by saying that Brighton are the most likely of the three south coast clubs finish highest in the Premier League this season but, at , they hold no value.

Instead, it makes sense to go with Southampton, who have merit.

The Saints look to have done smart business over the summer, with highly-rated Irish goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu and Europa League finalist Joe Aribo coming in from Manchester City and Rangers respectively.

The last three seasons have seen Southampton finish 15th, 15th and 11th in the Premier League.

While that looks unremarkable, Brighton’s performance over the same period of time is ninth, 16th, 15th. The Seagulls have, in fact, only twice finished above Southampton during their five-year stay in the top flight.

TOP MIDLANDS CLUB: ASTON VILLA

With Aston Villa and Leicester level at the top of the market for top Midlands club, we’re going to plump for the former.

Leicester finished eighth last season, six places and seven points above Villa, but there are worrying signs at the King Power that could spell regression.

The Foxes are the only Premier League club yet to make a signing this summer.

While that in itself isn’t necessarily bad news, it looks a worry when you consider that first-choice goalkeeper Kaspar Schmeichel is leaving to join Ligue 1 side Nice and centre-back Wesley Fofana is being linked with a move elsewhere.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, underperformed last year, finishing 14th after spending big. Having strengthened by bringing in centre-back Diego Carlos, midfielder Boubacar Kamara and making Philippe Coutinho’s loan permanent, they look stronger.

Manager Steven Gerrard is also likely to benefit from the experience of being in charge for almost a year – while at Rangers, it wasn’t until his third season as manager that they won the league title.

With the quality he has at his disposal, the potential at Villa is far higher than that at Leicester.

TOP NORTH WEST CLUB: LIVERPOOL

Picking a winner in this market feels broadly the same as picking the Premier League title winner for the season.

The reason Liverpool have been put up over Manchester City is the price differential between them.

Manchester City won the title by just one point last season and needed a result on the final day to make sure – there is very little between these teams.

While the arrival of Erling Haaland undoubtedly strengthens City, there are still question marks over how many games he will be able to play – the striker missed 16 matches for Dortmund last season through various injuries.

It’s also possible he will be campaigned towards more Champions League games than the Premier League given that European success is the club’s long-held ambition.

Added to that, Liverpool have also brought in Darwin Nunez from Benfica. The Uruguayan bagged 34 in 41 matches in all competitions last season.
