Chelsea suffered a 3-1 loss at West Ham United last time out to prolong their wait for a first win of the campaign and put some early pressure on Mauricio Pochettino’s shoulders.

As for Luton, they have turned out only once this season but they were humbled 4-1 by Brighton at the Amex Stadium and that defeat could be a sign of things to come for the Hatters.

The spotlight will be on west London on Friday evening (20:00 kick-off) as both sides look to chalk up a first victory of the 2023/24 campaign.

Senegalese striker getting closer to first goal

With Chelsea back on home soil, they should collect all three points, but the 2/9 on them to do so is easily ignored and it may prove more prudent to look at Nicolas Jackson, one of several summer arrivals, to have three or more shots on target.

The Senegal international looked bright in pre-season, notching against Brighton and Newcastle, and he has come close to opening his Premier League account in the clashes with Liverpool and West Ham.

Jackson, who scored 12 times in 26 La Liga appearances for Villarreal last season, has had a team-leading six attempts for the Blues and he now goes up against a Luton defence that allowed Brighton 27 shots on the opening weekend.

Also, with Carney Chukwuemeka set to miss the next six weeks due to injury, Mykhailo Mudryk is expected to fill his spot down the left and his pace and trickery could present Jackson with the opportunity to get some shots at the goalkeeper.

Hatters still present a threat

Luton were exposed at the back on their Premier League debut but they did offer something coming forward and scored against the Seagulls.

The Hatters had nine attempts on the south coast, with three of those on target, and they will fancy their chances of getting some shots off at Robert Sanchez.

For all of Chelsea’s positivity coming forward, they allowed West Ham six shots on target on Sunday and this fragile defence will already concern Pochettino.

Luton will hope a counter-attacking approach will pave the way for some openings against a Blues’ defence that has already conceded four goals from two matches.
