Sick notes and sitters: 7 hot takes from the Premier League

Gray missed the target while Ozil missed the entire game. Here are our reactions to the weekend in the top flight.
Willian has no shame
It’s fine to claim that your goal was a ‘beautiful’ chip and not a mishit cross, but at least do it with a cheeky wink to the camera.
This was just brazen.

Mesut’s Oz-ill (again)
An excellent performance in a big game against Spurs was a good opportunity for Ozil to put together a run of form for Arsenal.
Instead, for the third time in a year, he was missing due to illness this weekend.
At the risk of being cynical, it’s almost as if he’s decided to leave next summer and isn’t really bothered.
Aaron Ramsey's fooling no one
The Welshman again showed off his world-class ability to pretend he’s shocked after missing a good chance, despite the fact that he does so on an almost weekly basis.
Give up the act, Aaron.
Andre Gray needs finishing practice
Andre Gray was through on goal. He had time to get it under control and on to his favoured right foot. All he had to do was slide it past Rob Elliot.
Instead, he passed it into the grateful goalkeeper’s arms.
Somehow, it wasn’t his worst miss of the game.
This was.
British managers are getting too many chances
Paul Merson won’t like this one.
West Brom have sacked Tony Pulis and are about to bring in Alan Pardew. Swansea are considering sacking Paul Clement to bring in – you guessed it – Tony Pulis.
If these clubs truly want to make progress, they should follow the example of clubs like Watford and Southampton and look elsewhere.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s woken up
It only took 12 goalless appearances from Shane Long in the Premier League for the Southampton boss to give Charlie Austin a go up front.
The 28-year-old striker responded with a brace, just in time for a late clamour to get him into England’s World Cup squad.
One tackle doth not a world-class centre-back make
The talk of Manchester United Twitter over the weekend was Victor Lindelof, and the sliding tackle that will – as the club are so keen to tell us – “kickstart his Old Trafford career”.

Yes, it was a good challenge, but perhaps a clean sheet against a Brighton side averaging a goal per game isn’t enough to anoint the Swede the new Nemanja Vidic just yet.
