Every week this season, two West Ham fans will compete against each other to win money for a charity close to their hearts.

James Jones and Will Pugh from the 'We Are West Ham' podcast will go head-to-head by picking their Fantasy Football teams every week, making sure to select at least one player from West Ham.

Their points will be totted up every week, and the highest-scoring team at the end of the 38 Gameweeks will be declared the winner, with Betway donating £1,000 to their chosen charity.

Who will come out on top? Here’s who the Hammers fans have selected for Gameweek 2.

GK: Turner

DEF: Estupinan, Saliba, Chilwell, Gvardiol

MID: Mitoma, Salah (c), Rashford, Saka

FW: Haaland, Joao Pedro

I can’t help but be delighted with my 83-point haul in GW1. Will’s going to be banging on about how he beat me and that’s fine, it’s cute that he thinks getting five more points than me in GW1 is a huge victory. He won this battle, but he won’t win the war.

I do have a confession to make, though. I made a couple of little tweaks to my team before last Friday’s deadline. Firstly, I dropped Josko Gvardiol to the bench for Ben Chilwell, while I also swapped Moussa Diaby out for Harvey Barnes. Both of those decisions paid off. Chilwell got six more points than Gvardiol and Barnes got four more than Diaby.

There were a few negatives, though. My haul would’ve been significantly higher had both Mohamed Salah and Chilwell had goals disallowed on Sunday, while Jurien Timber’s yellow card and season-ending injury meant my excitement for his attacking threat on the flanks was quickly dashed.

Timber’s injury has forced me into a GW2 transfer I didn’t really want to make. I had planned to carry this transfer in order to have more flexibility in GW3, but I’ve decided to bring in Timber’s Arsenal teammate William Saliba in his place. That’s the only change I’ve made in terms of transfers, but there is likely to be one or two changes to my starting XI before Friday night’s deadline.

Gvardiol is likely to be in my XI, which Barnes dropping to the bench. Barnes’ debut for Newcastle was impressive - nabbing a goal and assist off the bench - but I don’t see him having the same impact at the Etihad this weekend. He could deliver, obviously, but I’m backing Gvardiol to return more points for City on what is likely to be his full City debut.

The rest of the team picks itself, but there is a slight dilemma over who gets the armband. Erling Haaland will almost always be my captain but this weekend, Mohamed Salah at home to Bournemouth is an attractive proposition that I just can’t ignore.

Of course, Liverpool beat the Cherries 9-0 at Anfield last term and Salah didn’t register a single goal or assist in that game, but he’s in good form and looked sharp against Chelsea, so this could be a bit of a haul for the Egyptian.

Will's team

GK: Turner

DEF: Botman, Gabriel, Estupinan

MID: Mbuemo, Rashford, Bowen, Saka

FW: Joao Pedro, Haaland (c), Wissa

Death, taxes and beating James Jones at a game he takes so much more seriously.

A comprehensive five point victory over James in week one had him giving it the old "It's a marathon not a sprint" line in his most defensive of tones.

And on the topic of defense, mine showed up pretty well for me last week with Sven Botman and Pervis Estupinan bagging assists and Ederson keeping a clean sheet for City. Only Gabriel at Arsenal let me down with his one point.

Yoane Wissa carried on his great run against Tottenham making that three goal contributions in two games against the north Londoners for Brentford.

Nottingham Forest's Matt Turner gets the nod this week instead of Ederson. If anyone is going to score against City this season it is probably going to be Newcastle and if Forest are ever going to keep a clean sheet it is going to be at home to Sheffield United - who were the Prem's lowest scorers by a mile when they went down in 2020-21.

Bryan Mbuemo comes in for injured Kevin De Bruyne in my only transfer. With longer games and more officious VARs, penalty takers are going to be worth their weight in gold. Brentford, Brighton and Luton were awarded spot kicks last weekend so I've gone penalty taker heavy.

Erling Haaland will be my captain every week so I won't bore you with that update here every seven days.

Keep an eye on Bukayo Saka this week who scored twice and bagged an assist against Crystal Palace in gameweek 28 last season so I fancy him to pull in the points again which is why he is my vice captain.
