FRANCE v ARGENTINA

Antoine Griezmann –

Griezmann’s successful pursuit of the Euro 2016 Golden Boot only got going in the knockout stages, where he scored five of his six tournament goals.

And despite beating Nigeria, there are still huge holes in the Argentina defence that you would expect the Atletico Madrid forward to take advantage of.

Griezmann is, of course, on penalty duty, which is a major consideration in this tournament.

URUGUAY v PORTUGAL

No goalscorer –

In a game between two experienced teams that will give nothing away, now could be the time to gamble on there being no goalscorer in 90 minutes.

None of Egypt, Saudi Arabia or Russia came close to scoring against Uruguay during the group stage, with the central-defensive pairing of Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez as solid as there is in the competition.

Only the questionable award of an Iran penalty prevented from Portugal from keeping consecutive clean sheets in Group B, with goalkeeper Rui Patricio in fine form so far.

SPAIN v RUSSIA

Isco –

Isco has been Spain’s only creative spark so far, so is the likeliest to get them off to a good start in the knockout stages.

The Real Madrid midfielder got off the mark at the World Cup with a nicely-taken goal against Morocco on Monday, having scored five goals in seven internationals in the build-up to the tournament.

Russia proved their vulnerability in losing 3-0 to Uruguay in their last group game, and may not have the counter-attacking pace to take advantage of the little possession that they will have in this game.

CROATIA v DENMARK

Luka Modric –

Modric is the only player to have scored twice for Croatia so far, and should have opportunities to add to his tally against Denmark.

The 32-year-old scored from the penalty spot in his side’s opener against Nigeria, before curling in a long-range effort against Argentina from a more advanced midfield position.

That dual threat makes him the obvious choice against a mediocre Denmark side.
