Sweden to win or draw v Mexico –

Sweden are hard to beat, as they were so close to proving before Toni Kroos’ 95th-minute free-kick on Saturday.

Janne Andersson’s side had kept three consecutive clean sheets before their match with the world champions, which was also just their fourth defeat in 14 competitive outings.

Mexico are still vulnerable to a group-stage exit if they lose by more than one goal, so will be reluctant to open up the game too much, particularly if they fall behind. A point would guarantee top spot in Group F.

Germany (-1) to beat South Korea –

It’s hard to know whether Germany’s dramatic victory over Sweden was unconvincing or represents the turning of a corner, but I’m inclined to go for the latter.

Toni Kroos’ brilliant free-kick epitomised the Germans’ unceasing winning mentality, while Joachim Low did appear to find a successful formula in the second half.

They are now a fair bet to win at least one group stage match by more than one goal for the sixth consecutive World Cup.

South Korea have just one long-range strike from Son Heung-Min to show for their attacking efforts, after failing to register a shot on target in their opener against Sweden.

Brazil to beat Serbia –

Brazil played well in the second half against Costa Rica on Friday, eventually breaking through in injury-time to go top of Group E.

So while defeat here would likely see them eliminated, Tite’s side – inspired by Philippe Coutinho, who is playing magnificently – should continue that form and claim their 19th win in 24 matches.

Serbia know that a win will take them through, but the fact they were deservedly beaten by Switzerland on Friday is a concern ahead of a game against superior opposition.

Switzerland to beat Costa Rica –

Switzerland are in the useful habit of virtually never losing, having avoided defeat in 90 minutes in all but one of their last 24 matches.

And, after Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri avoided FIFA bans for their ‘Albanian Eagle’ goal celebration against Serbia, they should continue that run and secure the three points that will guarantee qualification.

Costa Rica have lost four consecutive matches, including defeat to nil in both Group E matches so far.
