Half-time: 0-0 –

Costa Rica have been level at the break in both matches so far, with Brazil having to wait until stoppage time for a breakthrough last time out.

All three of Switzerland’s goals in this tournament have come in the second half and, with them only needing a draw to guarantee qualification, they’re unlikely to overcommit in attack.

Switzerland to win to nil –

Switzerland have won 15 of their 19 matches since being eliminated on penalties from Euro 2016, with 11 of those victories being accompanied by a clean sheet.

Against a Costa Rica side that are yet to find the net in Russia, this one ought to follow a similar pattern.

Giancarlo Gonzalez to be carded –

Gonzalez has averaged around one card every three-and-a-half games for both club and country during his career, but is yet to have his name taken at the World Cup.

Having been booked in each of Costa Rica’s final two pre-tournament friendlies, he’s the one player who’s unlikely to take it easy, even with nothing to play for.

Under 1.5 Switzerland cards –

While Serbia racked up four yellows in Friday’s politically-charged clash, Switzerland’s only booking came in stoppage time after Xherdan Shaqiri celebrated the winner by removing his shirt.

Against weaker opposition, and with qualification in their hands, Swiss ill-discipline should not be a problem.
