TOM BOWLES

France to beat Argentina -

France haven’t been great so far, but they are better than Argentina, who were fortunate to beat Nigeria last time out.

I expect Didier Deschamps’ side to win the match comfortably, which makes this bet a no-brainer at odds against.

France and Uruguay both to qualify for the quarter-final: £10 at 2/1*

Argentina were lucky to make it out of Group D and were hammered 3-0 by Croatia in their biggest test of the tournament so far.

France should knock them out without much trouble, despite their own below-par performances up to now.

Uruguay have won three from three and are yet to concede a goal in Russia. I fancy them to get the better of Portugal, who have been poor so far.

France to win and over 2.5 goals, Uruguay to win and under 3.5 goals: £10 at 14/1*

Like Billy, I also fancy both France and Uruguay to win their ties, only I’m backing them to do so inside 90 minutes.

France have won 10 of their last 15 games, and ought to be able to pick off an Argentina side that are about as dysfunctional a football team as you could wish to play at this stage of the competition.

Les Bleus have only kept clean sheets in three of their eight matches in 2018, though, so Lionel Messi and co. should at least get on the scoresheet.

The evening game isn’t likely to be a thriller, however.

Uruguay have won six matches in a row to nil, and should be able to squeeze out a Portugal team that look even worse going forward than they did while drawing their way to the Euro 2016 title.

Fernando Santos’ side shipped three against Spain, one against Iran and were lucky to keep a clean sheet against Morocco. They will do well to keep the South Americans’ classy frontline quiet.

Spain to win and Croatia to win to nil: £10 on at 3/1*

Russia looked good in their opening two games of the tournament, but struggled against the first decent team they faced in a 3-0 defeat to Uruguay.

I can’t see them beating Spain, who topped Group B despite being below their best.

Croatia have been excellent throughout the tournament and have conceded just one goal so far.

Expect them to win and keep a clean sheet against Denmark, who only scored twice in their group matches.

Spain v Russia: BTTS, Croatia to beat Denmark: £10 at 3/1*

Spain have drawn 3-3 and 2-2 so far in this tournament, and rode their luck in their 1-0 victory over Iran.

Aleksandr Golovin should return for Russia, and ensure that his side improve from their 3-0 defeat to Uruguay.

Later in the evening, I expect Croatia to beat Denmark comfortably.

The Danes qualified for this stage in mediocre fashion, and come up against arguably the tournament’s best team so far.
