HIDEKI MATSUYAMA

To win

To lead after the first round

Matsuyama opened with a round of 65 at last week’s WGC St Jude Invitational, which left him joint-second at the end of Thursday’s play.

The 27-year-old was in the same position at the 3M Open earlier this month, when he opened with a 64, and could again go low on the first day at Sedgefield.

Matsuyama is putting together a nice season, currently ranking seventh in total shots gained on the PGA Tour, and he’s clearly one of the best players in this relatively weakened field.

He’s got a good record in this event, having finished T3 in 2016 and T11 last year.

CHEZ REAVIE

To win

To lead after the first round

Reavie has been one of the most consistent starters on the PGA Tour this year, ranking joint-fifth in first-round scoring average in 2019.

The 37-year-old opened with a decent round of 68 at last week’s WGC St Jude Invitational, which left him tied for 18th at the end of the first day.

Reavie was joint-eighth at the end of Thursday’s play at last month’s US Open, and a week later won the Travelers Championship after being joint-seventh after the first round.

He looks a good bet to go low again on day one at Sedgefield, where he finished inside the top 10 in both 2009 and 2011.
