ERIK VAN ROOYEN

To win

To lead after first round

Van Rooyen finally claimed his first European Tour victory last weekend, winning the Scandinavian Invitation by one stroke from Matt Fitzpatrick.

That win capped off a run of excellent form for the South African, who has had two second-place finishes, a T5, a T6 and a T8 this year.

He looks a good bet to get off to a flyer at Crans-sur-Sierre after shooting 65 in his last two opening rounds.

The 29-year-old also has form on this course, opening with a round of 66 last year before fading over the weekend.

LEE WESTWOOD

To win

To lead after first round

Westwood missed the cut in his most recent start at the Czech Masters but should return ready to fire after skipping last week’s Scandinavian Invitation.

The 46-year-old has a decent record in the Swiss Alps, finishing T12 last year and claiming fourth in 2016.

His game is well-suited to the picturesque course, with Westwood ranking fourth in scrambling and seventh in shots gained on approach on the European Tour.

Westwood started with a 68 here last season and shot 68-70-66-68 in his four opening rounds prior to his disappointing performance in Prague.

ALEXANDER BJORK

To win

To lead after first round

Bjork withdrew from this event last season with illness after shooting an opening 69 and looks poised to replicate that form a year on.

The Swede finished T20 at the Czech Masters last weekend after a first round of 67 and a closing 64, with his form clearly returning after an underwhelming mid-season run.

His classy short game is perfectly suited to Crans-sur-Sierre, where he finished T16 as a rookie in 2017, including an opening 68.

Crucially, Bjork ranks fifth on the Tour in scrambling, and that will serve him well on the small greens of this mountainous track.
