Back to win: Charley Hoffman -

Hoffman is the top all-time earner at the Texas Open. He has made eight cuts out of eight at the tournament with seven finishes of 13th or better, a T3, a T2 and a win in 2016.

The 41-year-old comes into this week’s event on the back of a T23 at the RBC Heritage, and he’s now placed inside the top 25 in three of his last four starts, including a T12 at the Masters.

A Texas specialist, Hoffman’s ball-striking is a real advantage in the usually windy conditions at TPC San Antonio. At , the four-time PGA Tour winner is this week’s best bet.

Each-way shout: Jimmy Walker –

Walker landed a top-20 finish at the Masters in his last start, and should build on that at a tournament that he won in 2015.

The 2016 USPGA champion came 13th in San Antonio last year – his fifth top-20 in his last 10 starts at this event – and he’s got a great record in Texas, which includes a T2 at the AT&T Byron Nelson in 2015.

Walker struggled last year and revealed in August that he was suffering from Lyme disease, but the American’s performance at Augusta is an encouraging sign that he’s getting back to his best.

The six-time PGA Tour winner got the class to triumph in this field, which is one of the weakest of the year so far, and he’s worth backing at a price that could look even more generous on Monday morning.

Outside shot – Abraham Ancer –

There have been plenty of big-priced winners at the Texas Open in the last decade, and, considering how watered-down this field is, it’s worth picking out an outsider who can emulate recent champions like Brendan Steele, Ben Curtis and Steven Bowditch.

PGA Tour rookie Ancer is playing arguably the best golf of his career to date, with his recent form reading T16-T13-T8.

That T8 was at the Houston Open – another Texas event – and the Mexican clearly feels comfortable playing in this state, where he also went to college.

A week after Satoshi Kodaira won his first PGA Tour event, Ancer is worth a punt for his maiden victory.
