Back to win: Tommy Fleetwood –

Graeme McDowell won this event in 2013 and 2014, and defending champion Fleetwood can do the same at Le Golf National this week.

The Englishman has cemented his place as one of golf’s rising stars since that victory. He won the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi in January, finished second at this month’s US Open and has climbed to 10th in the official world rankings.

Fleetwood only managed a T59 at last week’s BMW International Open, which is understandable after a gruelling week at Shinnecock Hills, but he should bounce back at a course that suits his game.

Currently ranked fourth in stroke average and 14th in GIR percentage on the European Tour, it’d be a real surprise if the 27-year-old isn’t in contention on Sunday.

Each-way shout: Andy Sullivan –

Sullivan has rediscovered the form that earned him a spot on the 2016 Ryder Cup team, with top-10 finishes in four of his last five starts, including a T9 in Germany last week.

The 32-year-old has been one of the most consistent players on the European Tour in 2018, making 16 consecutive cuts dating back to last October.

Sullivan ranks fifth in stroke average and sixth in birdies, and is also inside the top 30 in shots gained off the tee and putting.

The Englishman has finished 13th or better in each of his last three starts at Le Golf National, including a T5 in 2016.

Outside shot: Soren Kjeldsen –

Kjeldsen has struggled in 2018, but showed signs of a return to form with a T7 in Germany last week.

The Dane has now made the cut in four of his last five starts, finishing inside the top 25 on three occasions in that spell.

Expect his turnaround to continue at the Open de France – a tournament he’s had plenty of success in over the past two decades.

The 43-year-old has made the cut in 15 of his 18 starts at this event. He has placed inside the top-20 10 times and the top 10 on two occasions in the past five years.
