Back to win: Bryson DeChambeau –

Other than Patrick Reed and Paul Casey, DeChambeau is arguably the most high-profile player taking part in Germany this week after finishing joint-51st at Carnoustie last week.

The 24-year-old withdrew from the John Deere Classic with a shoulder injury a week before the Open, but he seems to have shaken that off and is only eight weeks removed from his last win at the Memorial Tournament.

DeChambeau picked up five top-10s in his last nine starts before the John Deere, and this is a great opportunity to contend again given the relatively weak field.

Green Eagle features an unusual five par-fives, which is perfect for the American, who ranks fourth in par-five scoring average on the PGA Tour.

Each-way shout: Lucas Bjerregaard –

Bjerregaard struggled during the European Tour’s links swing but should benefit from this return to a parkland course.

The Dane enjoyed a run of four top-six finishes out of five starts before the Open de France earlier this month, including a T5 at the BMW International Open in Germany.

Well-rested after failing to qualify for last week’s Open, Bjerregaard looks a good bet to make a fast start this week, having led after round one at both the BMW PGA Championship and Sicilian Open inside the past two months.

The 26-year-old has won on the European Tour in the last year, triumphing at the Portugal Masters last September, and his recent form in Europe suggests he should at least contend again here.

Outside shot: Justin Walters –

With the top players coming off a gruelling test at Carnoustie, this looks a good week for an outsider to cause a shock.

Walters is yet to earn his first victory on the European Tour, but Green Eagle is an incredibly long course that suits his game nicely.

The South African ranks inside the European Tour’s top 30 in both shots gained off the tee and driving distance this year, and he’s also in the top 20 in greens under regulation.

The 37-year-old is in decent nick, with two top-10s in his last five starts, and he picked up a T23 at the Scottish Open last time out.
