Back to win: Justin Rose –

Each of the last eight WGC-Bridgestone champions did not tee up the previous week, so it’s likely that this year’s winner will have given the Canadian and European Open a miss last week.

Rose – who is currently on a run of five successive top-10 finishes – is the perfect candidate.

The world No. 2 finished joint-second at the Open in his last start despite needing to make a birdie at the 36th hole to avoid missing the cut, and he’s already won once in the US this season at the Fort Worth Invitational.

The Englishman has finished inside the top five in three of his last six starts at Firestone, and should go well again at a course that rewards his fantastic driving and ball-striking.

Each-way shout: Francesco Molinari –

Despite ridiculous form figures of 1-2-T25-1-T2-1, Molinari is surprisingly long to win this week at .

No golfer in the world is playing better than the Italian at the moment, and the way he dealt with the breeze to win at Carnoustie a fortnight ago suggests he’s close to unbeatable if that form continues.

Molinari’s best finish at Firestone is a T15 in 2011, but it’s worth noting that the last two champions had never placed inside the top 10 before their victory.

It’s hugely important to drive well at this course, so Molinari should have an edge as he currently ranks fourth in shots gained off the tee on the PGA Tour.

Outside shot: Patrick Cantlay –

With such a strong field in a tournament that is often won by the big names, it doesn’t make much sense to look at rank outsiders at Firestone.

Cantlay – at – is the biggest that we’ll go.

The American has never played at this event before, but the course should suit him as he ranks 12th in shots gained off the tee and 20th in GIR percentage.

He’s also in fine form, with three top-15 finishes in his last four starts, including a T12 at the Open earlier this month.
