Back to win: Jason Day –

Day has an excellent record in this competition. He has reached the semi-finals in three of the last five years, and won in both 2014 and 2016.

The Australian withdrew from last year’s event after his mother was diagnosed with cancer, but is now poised to make another run deep into the knockout stages.

The 30-year-old’s record of 21 wins in 28 matches is the best in WGC Match Play history, and this year he’s been drawn in Group 8 against Louis Oosthuizen, who he beat 5 & 4 in the 2016 final.

Day finished 22nd at Bay Hill last week, but came second in his previous start at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and won the Farmers Insurance Open in January.

He’s playing well enough to win this week, and is great value at this price to do so.

Each-way shout: Patrick Reed –

Reed showed at the 2016 Ryder Cup that he’s a formidable Match Play player when in form, taking three-and-a-half points from five matches, including a crucial singles win over Rory McIlroy.

The American is a fierce competitor, and will fancy taking on former foursomes partner Jordan Spieth, with whom he’s been drawn in Group 4.

Reed comes to Austin on the back of a T2 at the Valspar Championship and a T7 at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, and he’s the kind of streaky player who can put together a run of good results after a spell of poor form.

The 27-year-old’s last win back in 2016 came after a run of four top-15s in five starts, and his form at the moment suggests he’s due another victory.

Outside shot: Rafael Cabrera-Bello –

Cabrera-Bello is the highest-seeded Pool B player this week, and has been drawn alongside Phil Mickelson, Satoshi Kodaira and Charles Howell III in Group 14.

The Spaniard has a great chance of advancing to the knockout stages, given that he has done so in three of his four starts in this event, including a semi-final appearance in 2016.

Cabrera-Bello won two-and-a-half points from three matches at the last Ryder Cup and has an excellent match play record of 14 wins, five defeats and a half across his career.

The 33-year-old finished third at the WGC-Mexico Championship in his last start, and is worth a punt this week at a big price.
