Back to win: Adam Scott

Scott won the Honda Classic in 2016 and has finished inside the top 15 in each of his last four starts at the event.

He comes into this week in great form, with a runner-up finish at the Farmers Insurance Open and a T7 at the Genesis in his last three starts.

Those results are mostly due to the Australian rediscovering his putting stroke. He ranks 18th on the PGA Tour in shots gained on the greens this season.

He looks a great bet to earn his first victory since he triumphed here three years ago, especially as this week’s field lacks star names at the top of the betting.

Each-way shout: Webb Simpson

Simpson finished fifth last year in his first start at this event since 2011, and he could easily have won having led on the first day and been just a shot back after round three.

Two of the last three Honda Classic winners have also won the Players Championship, so Simpson – who triumphed at Sawgrass last year – should be in with a chance this week.

A Bermudagrass specialist, he is a good fit at this course, which favours accurate iron play over length off the tee.

Simpson ranks third in shots gained on approach to the green and 18th in GIR percentage on the PGA Tour this season.

Outside shot: Lucas Glover

The absence of several big names this week means it’s worth backing an outsider, and Glover looks a fine choice.

The 2009 US Open champion is in fine form, with six top-20 finishes in his last seven starts, including a T7 at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am last time out.

Glover’s had some success at this course before, including a T4 in 2013 and top-25s in each of the past two years, and his stats this year suggest another good result is imminent.

The 39-year-old ranks 16th in total shots gained on the PGA Tour this season and is second in GIR percentage.
