The Money List: Golf tips for the Valspar Championship
Back a player to win the Valspar Championship and Betway will pay you out if they lead after the first round. Here are Jack Green's golf tips for the event.
Back to win: Sergio Garcia
Garcia earned a T22 finish at the PLAYERS last week, closing with a 67 that was bettered by just three players in tricky conditions on Sunday.
The Spaniard has finished inside the top 25 in 11 of his last 13 starts dating back to August, placing inside the top 10 in nine of those.
Garcia doesn’t play very often, but when he does, he tends to play well, and the Valspar is an event that suits him.
The world No. 26 has four successive finishes of T16 or better at Copperhead, including a career-best solo fourth last year.
Each-way shout: Lucas Glover
Glover’s run of three successive top 10s ended with a missed cut at Sawgrass, but he should respond at a course that suits his game.
The 39-year-old finished fourth at the Valspar in 2007, a result he hasn’t bettered since, but his form suggests he’s got a good chance of contending this week.
Glover ranks seventh in GIR percentage and third in scrambling on the PGA Tour this season – two areas that should be crucial at Copperhead, where the fairways are narrow and the greens are tight.
The American posted four rounds of 68 or better to finish T12 at the Desert Classic earlier this season, which bodes well for his chances here as the greens at the two events are very similar.
Outside shot: Chez Reavie
Reavie’s accuracy both off the tee and in his approach play makes him a great outside bet this week.
The American ranks third in driving accuracy, 12th in shots gained on approach to the green and 23rd in GIR percentage on the PGA Tour this year.
Reavie missed the cut at the PLAYERS and isn’t in great form, but he’s still just over a month removed from a T4 at the Waste Management Open, and also picked up a T3 at the Sony Open in January.
The 37-year-old’s best finish at this event was a T11 in 2011, and his numbers suggests he’s poised to better that this week.
