The Money List: Golf tips for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Jack Green's golf tips for this week's PGA Tour event in California include a player to win, an each-way shout and an outsider at a big price.
Back to win: Phil Mickelson
Mickelson is the leading money winner at Pebble Beach by a comfortable margin, having triumphed at this event on five occasions.
The American won here last year, closing with a round of 65 to see off Paul Casey by three shots.
Along with his five victories, Mickelson has twice finished second at this event, both inside the past four years.
The 49-year-old has to be backed any time he arrives at Pebble Beach in form, and last week’s T3 at the Saudi International suggests he’s poised to make it six career wins at this event.
Each-way shout: Jordan Spieth
Backing Spieth is a risky proposition given how much his form has deteriorated over the past two years, but the three-time major winner loves Pebble Beach and can get back on track this week.
Spieth won this event in 2017 and has a couple of other good results to his name, finishing T4 in 2014 and T7 a year later.
The 26-year-old couldn’t overcome his poor putting as he missed the cut at last week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, but that was just his third missed cut in 26 starts dating back to this time last year.
Spieth recorded five top-10s last year despite his struggles, so he’s worth backing each-way at one of his favourite venues.
Outside shot: Kevin Na
Na is a huge price this week given that he’s won twice on the PGA Tour in the past nine months.
The world No. 28 triumphed at the Charles Schwab Challenge last May and followed that up in October’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Na is coming off a missed cut in Phoenix but finished inside the top 20 in his previous start at The American Express three weeks ago.
He also has a decent record at Pebble Beach, with two top-five finished in his last six starts at this event.
