The Money List: Golf tips for the BMW PGA Championship
Jack Green's golf tips for this week at Wentworth include a player to win, an each-way shout and an outsider at a big price.
Back to win: Tommy Fleetwood
Fleetwood fits the profile of a winner at the BMW PGA and looks a great fit for Wentworth.
The Englishman is a pure ball striker and comes into this event in good nick, with five top-15 finishes in his last six starts.
That run includes an impressive second place at the Open in July, when Fleetwood came so close to earning his first major triumph.
The 28-year-old’s best result at Wentworth to date was a T6 in 2015, but this is a difficult track that can take a few attempts to master.
It would be no surprise if Fleetwood posts his best result yet on his eighth appearance.
Each-way shout: Matthew Fitzpatrick
Fitzpatrick’s results at Wentworth have improved every year, with last year’s T8 his best finish to date.
The world No. 30 has the accuracy and ball striking to suit this tight venue and is in the kind of form to contend this week.
Fitzpatrick finished T69 at the European Masters in his last start, but was runner-up at the Scandinavian Invitation before that – his fourth successive top 20.
The 25-year-old’s record of winning every year since his debut European Tour season in 2015 is under threat, but three runner-up finishes in 2019 suggest it’s a matter of time until he triumphs again.
Outside shot: Andrew Johnston
Johnston looks a great bet if you’re looking for a punt at a big price this week.
The Englishman struggled with mental health issues earlier this year but looked back to his best when he finished T4 at the Scottish Open in July.
‘Beef’ has since finished T10 at the Scandinavian Invitation and was T23 at the European Masters in his last start, and is worth backing to extend that run of results at Wentworth.
He finished T7 at this event back in 2016 and T23 a year later, and should bounce back from a missed cut last year now that he’s in better form.
