BACK TO WIN

Sergio Garcia

Garcia made his first start of the year last week, finishing T8 at the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi.

The Spaniard should build on that result this week at an event he won in 2017.

Garcia also finished T3 in Dubai last year and was inside the top 20 in both 2013 and 2011.

The world No. 42 started last year strongly with four top 10s in his first six starts, and his performance in Abu Dhabi last week bodes well for a similar run of results to open 2020.

EACH-WAY SHOUTS

Bernd Wiesberger

I tipped Wiesberger each-way in Abu Dhabi last week, where he was second after the third round before ultimately falling to T8.

Despite the disappointing finish, it was an encouraging start to 2020 for the Austrian, who closed out last year in good form.

Wiesberger won three times on the European Tour in 2019 despite starting the year with four missed cuts in six starts, so this looks a big price given he’s got a decent record in Dubai.

He finished fourth at this event in 2015 and has finished inside the top 20 on two other occasions.

Rafael Cabrera-Bello

Four Spaniards have won this event in the past 10 years, including Cabrera-Bello, who triumphed in 2012.

That isn’t the 35-year-old’s only good result at Emirates Golf Club, as he also finished T2 at this track in 2016 and T6 two years ago.

Cabrera-Bello finished last season with back-to-back top-20 finishes and kept that going last week with a T12 in his first start of 2020.

He has a good record in links events, having won the Scottish Open in 2017, so it’s no surprise that he enjoys this event, which is often affected by the wind.
