The Money List: Golf tips for the KLM Open
Jack Green's golf tips for this week's European Tour event in Amsterdam include two previous winners and a former Ryder Cup player.
Back to win: Thomas Pieters
Pieters doesn’t win nearly as often as he should, but this looks a great opportunity for the 27-year-old to earn a second victory of 2019.
The Belgian triumphed at the Czech Masters last month and has since followed that up with a T12 at the European Masters and a T20 at last week’s European Open.
Pieters has climbed 29 spots in the world rankings over the course of those three starts and looks the best bet of the week in what is a relatively weak field at The International.
He won this event when he last played it back in 2015 and has never finished outside of the top 30 in three starts here.
Each-way shout: Joost Luiten
Luiten has won the KLM Open twice, so the Dutchman is worth backing any time he comes to his home event in decent form.
That’s the case this week after he finished T23 in his last start at the European Masters.
Luiten only has one top-20 finish in his last six starts, but he’s made the cut in his last three and seems to raise his game when he plays in the Netherlands.
He has three top-six finishes at this event along with his victories in 2013 and 2016.
Outside shot: Jamie Donaldson
Donaldson has had a difficult time since returning in May from a hand injury caused by a chainsaw accident, but he’s posted a couple of decent results in his past few starts and looks worth a punt in Amsterdam.
The Welshman finished T5 at the Scandinavian Invitation last month and T9 at July’s Scottish Open – his first top 10s since October 2017.
Donaldson finished T35 at the European Masters in his last start but is worth backing to better that this week given his record at the KLM Open.
The 43-year-old has two top fives, a T20 and a T21 in his last seven starts at this event.
