EACH-WAY SHOUTS

Ryan Moore

Dustin Johnson is the only player among the favourites at this brand new PGA Tour event who is appealing, and he’s very short at .

With such a wide-open field, it’s best to look elsewhere, so I’m going with two each-way picks at bigger prices.

Moore is a great fit at this course, which features narrow, tree-lined fairways and tight greens.

Ball-striking will be crucial, and that bodes well for the 36-year-old, who ranks third in driving accuracy and 23rd in shots gained on approach to the green on the PGA Tour this season.

Moore is coming off a T15 at TPC River Highlands, a course designed by Donald Ross, who also devised the layout at Detroit Golf Club.

The American played well in three of the four rounds last week and could have been in contention if not for a 72 on Saturday. That performance suggests he’s worth an each-way bet this week.

Kevin Streelman

Streelman is in fine form, having followed up a fourth-placed finish at the Memorial Tournament earlier this month with a T15 at last week’s Travelers Championship.

The American also finished sixth in back-to-back starts in April and his game is well-suited to this event.

Streelman ranks inside the top 40 on the PGA Tour this season in driving accuracy, greens in regulation and strokes gained from tee to green, all of which should be important in Detroit.

He hasn’t won since 2014, but there aren’t many players in this relatively weak field playing as well as Streelman at present, so it’s easy to see him contending on Sunday.

OUTSIDE SHOT

Jason Dufner

Dufner hasn’t had a great season, but he’s started to turn his form around with some good results in the past few weeks.

He finished T4 at the Wells Fargo Championship in May and T7 at the Memorial Tournament earlier this month.

Dufner is a fine ball-striker and ranks 20th in greens in regulation percentage on the PGA Tour this season despite his poor start to the year.

His last win – at the 2017 Memorial Tournament – came after a similarly inconsistent patch of form and he’s worth a punt at a decent price considering the lack of star names.
