Here are Jack Green's golf tips for the PGA Tour event at Colonial.
American winner 4/6
Justin Rose triumphed at Colonial last year but this has long been a tournament dominated by Americans.
Nine of the last 11 winners here have been from the USA, with Adam Scott and Rory Sabbatini – more on him in a minute – the only non-American champions during that period.
In a field that includes Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau and Jordan Spieth – who finished T3 at the PGA Championship last weekend – it’s worth backing this year’s winner to come from the host nation.
Jon Rahm and Rory Sabbatini to finish in the top 10 8/1
As dominant as the Americans have been over the past decade, Rahm is my pick to win this week.
The Spaniard has finished T2 and T5 in his two starts at Colonial, and he is poised to improve upon that after finishing inside the top 10 in seven of his last 11 starts.
Sabbatini won here in 2007 and has finished inside the top 10 on three other occasions.
The world No. 137 has enjoyed a resurgence recently, finishing T10-T18-T5 in his last three starts.
Matthew Fitzpatrick and Kevin Na to finish in the top 10 22/1
Na looks a great outside bet this week given that he’s placed inside the top 10 four times at Colonial.
The Korean-American’s game suits this track nicely and he’s in decent form, with two top-10s in his last five starts.
Fitzpatrick made the cut last week at Bethpage Black – a ultra-long course that should really be all wrong for him.
This venue, where accuracy off the tee is key, should give him much more of a chance, and a runner-up finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March proves he can get into contention when a course fits his game.
