Jon Rahm to win the BMW Championship

Jon Rahm won the last BMW Championship to be staged at Olympia Fields and it would come as no surprise if the Spanish superstar were to hold the trophy aloft once again in Illinois on Sunday evening.

Rahm fell in love with this course in 2020, making four birdies on the back nine of his final round to draw level with Dustin Johnson, before producing an incredible 66-foot birdie putt to win in a playoff.

The 28-year-old Basque returns to the North Course having subsequently won two Major championships - the US Open in 2021 and the Masters this season - and his game is perfect for the type of tee-to-green test which Olympia demands.

This is the penultimate event of the 2022/23 PGA Tour season and only the top 30 on the season-long FedEx Cup standings will advance to East Lake and next week's Tour Championship.

Rahm, who sits atop the FedEx Cup standings, is in pole position to start that event at -10 and can make certain of that by winning the BMW.

He was not at his best at the St Jude Championship last week but found his form to play the final three founds in eight under, and there is room for further improvement at a course where he knows how to win.

Viktor Hovland to win

Rahm's biggest challenge could come from Viktor Hovland, who has proved capable of contending on tough, Major-like courses this season, winning the Memorial and coming close to reeling in Brooks Koepka at the US PGA Championship.

The Norwegian finished down the field in his only previous trip to this course but he's a much more assured performer three years on and the North Course is made for a ball-striker of his standing.

Hovland finished 13th in the St Jude having gone into the final round with a chance and while he would have been disappointed not to apply more pressure, he struck his irons beautifully again and can make amends this week. 

Cameron Young to win

This could be the week when the hugely talented Cameron Young puts it all together and wins on the PGA Tour for the first time.

Young looks made for the North Course, where long, straight driving will be the order of the day, and he should be comfortable in the Illinois conditions given he was born and raised in the similar northern climes of New York.

The 26-year-old has finished eighth or better in four of his last seven Majors, proving he can compete among the very best, and he arrives at the BMW having closed with a 67 at the St Jude, driving the ball wonderfully in Sunday's final round.
