Back to win: Viktor Hovland

Hovland will be a popular bet at Los Angeles Country Club this week after he triumphed in a playoff in his last start at the Memorial Tournament a fortnight ago.

The Norwegian is one of the best players in the world who is yet to win a major, and has climbed to fifth in the official world rankings following a run of five top-10s in his last 10 starts.

That run also includes a T2 at the PGA Championship and a T7 at the Masters, and a T4 at last year’s Open Championship means his major form is very strong coming into the US Open.

With a first win in America to his name and some strong recent major finishes, Hovland is primed to make the breakthrough this week and looks a great bet at this price.

Each-way shout: Max Homa

Like Homa, Hovland is yet to win a major championship, but this venue presents a massive opportunity for the 32-year-old American.

He holds the course record at Los Angeles Country Club after a nine-under par 61 when he was in college at the University of California, Berkeley in 2013.

That’s not to say Homa will come out firing with another 61 on Thursday, but he’s one of the few players in the US Open field to have played this course before, and the fact he played so well is certainly a plus.

Homa has yet to finish in the top 10 at a major, but he’s got a great record in California and has been in great form in 2023, with a win and six other top-10s in 12 starts.

Outside shot: Russell Henley

Henley earned a career-best major finish with a T4 at the Masters in April – his best result in a strong run of form that dates back to March’s Players Championship.

The 34-year-old American has six top-20 finishes in his last seven starts, including a T16 at the Memorial Tournament in his last start a fortnight ago.

Henley has never landed a top-10 finish at the US Open, but he was the first-round leader in 2018 and led all the way up until the final round in 2021, so he’s certainly capable of getting in the mix this week.

Given his recent form and that performance at the Masters, Henley looks a good outside bet to get into contention come Sunday.
