Most racing fans will be looking towards Ireland this weekend as a high-class card takes place at Leopardstown.

But we are staying on these shores this week with plenty of competitive action, some of which will be live on ITV.

Here are my best each-way plays for horses at big prices that may have been overlooked by the masses...

2.25 – Sprint Cup (Haydock)

Richard Fahey’s GROWL  was a beaten favourite last time out in a Class 2 Handicap at Ripon.

His price here looks as though it has been based on that relatively disappointing run when attracting lots of support.

He was also well-backed at Goodwood when beaten by just a length into fourth in the valuable Stewards’ Cup.

His winning form has only reached Listed level, but he has been placed in a Group 1 before in the Champions Sprint at Ascot at odds of 50/1.

Conditions will suit this speedy five-year-old and he looks like he could run a far bigger race than his price suggests.

3.35 – The Superior Mile Stakes (Haydock)

YOU’RE FIRED’s form figures at Haydock are 112, so he can at least place in this valuable Group 3 contest back at the Lancashire track.

He’s had 161 days off the track since coming 10th in the Betway Lincoln at the start of the Flat season.

Jockey Ben Curtis also hit 50 winners for a fourth consecutive season a few weeks ago.

This horse has a great record of bouncing back and four of his six wins have followed a 0 in his form figures – something he would have been awarded in the form books for that Lincoln 10th.

He has four wins and four places over this kind of trip and could outperform his price of .

3.55 – Heritage Handicap (Ascot)

This is a tough three-year-old handicap over a 1m 4f trip where I think Sir Michael Stoute’s MELTING DEW represents decent each-way value at .

He was unlucky not to win at Pontefract last time when he got going too late and was beaten by a nose, staying on.

Stoute has maintained his almost clockwork record of 20 per cent winners in the three-year-old category this season.

This Khalid Abdullah owned colt is well-handicapped and I expect him to run very well.

4.30 – Novice Stakes (Ascot)

AGAR’S PLOUGH ran far better than the form figure suggests on debut at Newmarket.

He was 100/1 that day, but will be nothing like that price as he lines up in a smaller field in Berkshire on Saturday.

He’s reasonably well-bred and may put his experience to good use at a nice price of .

The last three winners of this race were drawn in stall 1, which is exactly where this selection will start the 7f trip.
